If you see someone else online with the same business name registered as the .ie name you want to register with a different business name is this possible to register the domain without dispute?

For example I want the name joebloggs.ie
joebloggs is a registered company name, but joebloggs.ie is not a taken .ie domain name, can this be taken legally?

You need to show that you are entitled to joebloggs.ie If you have a registered business name for joebloggs or josephbloggs or jbloggs and sons etc you will get the domain name. However if you try to get a 'well-known' name of a business they might get sticky.

For example, if a major brewer such as Joseph Bloggs (established 1759) forgot to register joebloggs.ie you might not get the domain because the registry (IEDR) willbe aware of teh famous name.

As Conolan said - Its pretty hard to register .ie business name if you arent the registered owner of that business name. However there are exceptions and as long as you can justify why you need the name they will probably allow you to register it.
