I think Neill has one, pretty sweet looking machine. I like the look of the Trek Mountain bikes.

What kind of riding you looking to do?

most often will be ballyhoura but I'll be traveling around the country and Wales too (have camper/will travel)

I can go a bit more rough and tumble too:D

(where ever there are truffels TBH)

Yeah it's a good bike, like Acoustic says you can probably get better packages for the same kind of money. It seems to be mostly Deore, and maybe the fork could be a bit higher up the Rock Shox line (like a reba or a recon) for the kind of money you are spending. But in terms of being a good starter bike it seems to fit the bill, I'm sure someone like Gavin could give better advice.

    Does it have disc brakes?

False alarm.... I was just onto the shop, its the 2008 model, this is not a problem but I can get it off tinternet for €70 cheaper, I thought it was the 2009 model....:(

What about a rockhopper disk for €659? or a KTM?

    Me sad now

Is there any difference in spec? I'm not into the off road thing but in terms of commuters and Hybrids generally the badge or model has remained static but manufacturers have dropped a groupset or downgraded the drive train on the 09 bikes. Online? Are you sure? Trek and its associated bike brands prohibit their dealers from online mail order sales - you can pay online but have to drive to store and collect.

Spec is quite close diff frame though and most importaint the paint job... more to do with the fact me thinks he was doing a rip... When ~I rang himhe was there oh the 2009 isnt out yet, I said yes it is, he 'went off to check' and came back going'... yea, prob 2008 but its the same bike' I said no argument there but you gotta drop the price, I can get that bike mucho cheapo-er
    he said oh no
I said have a think, I'll ring you tomorrow. But I reckon he wont budge. I want to buy off a LBS but god damn it they make it so hard!!
I have no problem paying more for the service but all this guy has to do to sell to me is admit the market, drop price and he'll have cash in hand, he was saying its a discounted price only for me to see it 10% higher than else where. But no he did the dance and now I've pulled out. If he comes down I'll buy if not... I;ll be gone to another shop... its not like they're in short supply...

just picked up one of these 6300 new for €685 in caldwells of omagh, friendly knowledgeable staff there. (for anyone interested in that area of course) :)

just wondering was it a good enough price?

I paid €500 for the 4300 a few months back - so looks like a good price!

a mate of mine i cycle with has a 6300. decent enough bike. trek are inclined to have slightly lesser parts than others for the money.
still the deore parts are reliable and you can upgrade them when/if they wear out. do not bother beforehand.

    HT perfect for ballyhouras.
on bikes at that level i would compare the following in order

    1. shock
    2. brakes
    3. bottombracket

the other components will be grand and wear out anyway but the above 3 if not good can impact on your satisfaction and riding experience.

just bought a specialized rockhopper disc for similar money, first proper mountain bike but loving it so far.

I ended up getting a Rockhopper and couldnt be happier, solid bike and I love the shape and look of it. Its so easy to throw it into twists and turns etc.

Best part is that due to the dropped top tube when the saddle is dropped to the max my GF can ride it too,,, serious brownie points there:D

Also my roadie is a trek, I retired a trek to get the rockhopper, so I prefer that I have two different makes, no reason why, its just another plus:)

i have a 2009 6300 and its a great bike, the only problem is the bontrager saddle is really uncomfortable so i changed that but everything else is sweet

good choice with the rockhopper disc, good value for the money. The lads that do the Bike rental in ballyhoura use them so they must be pretty ok.
