€100 NTL cancellation fee??

Called NTL today - I want to change the name on our NTL bill to my name instead of my boyfriend's name (tax reasons). But NTL is unable to do it.
(I know - it must be very technically advanced to make this complex change. God knows how ESB and all the other companies are able to do it)

So then we suggested that we cancel the account, and re-sign up again. But they have - get this - a €100 cancellation fee!

NTL is a joke. But not like a funny one, like a bad one.

Are you in the early stages of a contract with them? Maybe thats the reason. They do this all the time so it should not be a huge issue e.g. when tenants change in a rented property.

That's what I would have thought. But that's the answer they gave me. I'll phone back and see if there's a smarter person answering the call this time.

How long are you under contract with them? We had to do similar with Eircom (change name) and had no problem. After 12 months it should cost nothing to cancel, and then sign up again (we did when we moved recently).

Call them and just add your name to the bill. Then call back a few days later and ask them to remove your boyfriend's name leaving only your own on the bill.

i took my name off the bill and put my bf's name it, he wasnt living me.

i just told them that i could no longer deal with them for my sanity and that every time i spoke to them i ended up in tears at the ineptitude of their staff.
they changed it there and then with no arguments.
