I applied to Job Seekers Allowance as I don't qualify to Job Seekers Benefits on Feb 23rd of this year after the company I used to work with made me redundant. At present I am still waiting for an answer as they told me that they have to check my Habitual Residence being not Irish citizen. Can anybody let me know please how long it will take to get an answer and if I am entitled how much money I will be able to get? Thanks for your help!:)

I think HRC's are taking 6-8 months at present. As you are signing for jobseeker's allowance, that will be means tested, so can't really say how much, but for you alone if you are single, the max you would get is 204.30 per week

    6-8 months??

What documentation did you provide them for your HRC? Anything that shows you have cut ties with your previous country of residence will help - closed bank accounts, evidence of shipping your belongings here (I even had evidence that we brought our cat over)

It won't make it go any faster, but if you're approved the first time without having to appeal.. that's the best outcome.

They never asked me to provide any documentation, they just told me from the welfare office that my application is in the HRC office hands to check my ties in this country...

ok well you'll have to provide evidence that you are here for the long haul, so you might as well start making a list of things to have on hand - I expect there will be an interview of some type (I had one, but that was 16 months ago so who knows what things are like these days)

I think they must mean the supplementary welfare allowance (without knowing what BASI stands for, I can only assume)

This is distributed by the community welfare officer through your local health office.

BASI is indeed supplementary welfare allowance - contact your CWO to see if they can pay you this while you are waiting. It will be repaid to the HSE from your arrears due to you though if your JA claim is awarded - if its not it doesn't matter. The CWO will just want to see if you have a claim open with Social Welfare and will then check your means/entitlement.

And unfortunately it is 6-8 months wait at the moment for HRC decisions - so I have been told anyway! They are inundated with them. Don't know if there is an interview in every case - they have way too many to be able to do that. Think they just fill out the form and decide on the information given on that - AFAIK!
