Upper Middle Classisms

Right well most people in Ireland can be considered to be middle class, although it is true to say that class in Ireland is nowhere near as distinct as it is in the UK but it is still prevalent nonetheless.

And then we have the upper middle class- thats those lot who aspire to be in the full blown upper class but have neither the wherewithall or the spondulix to make it.

An example of this lot is that twat Richard Corrigan's programme on RTE 'Corrigan's City Farm' about growing your own food and the like. It's such upper middle class drivel, it involves people with way too much time on their hands rearing their own chickens, growing spuds and veggies, no doubt rocket leaves and zuchinni are involved with this lot too. Corrigan even had the gall to suggest that 'we should all be growing our own food'. Well good for you if you have the time on your hands but some of us have to work for a living, often way more than 40 hours and tending to an allotment after a 60 hour week is just out of the question.

Another is Saturday's Irish Times magazine. Week after week you are guaranteed allotment this, allotment that, eco this, eco that, farmers markets all over the shop and then a food review by that other bastion of the upper middle classes, Tom Doooorley.

Do these people ever work at all or do they just sit around allotments sipping cheap cava wishing it was champagne?

What other upper middle classisms get on your wick ?

If you cant tend to an allotment how do you have time to post on a forum? you're just lazy you are.

Also culchies grow vegetables and therefore it is not middle class.

OP, we all despise the Upper middle claasses ( well except for the we-know-their-kinky-despite-that-restrained-ice-cool-horsey british female middle class thing) but city allotments are for people without gardens.

    The poor.

You do realise that you can grow spuds/carrots in a dustbin in the back of your garden/balcony?

For seeds and a bin it only costs around €40. They're practically maintenance free.

It would take more time/money/effort to go to the supermarket to buy them than growing your own.

    Bananas might be tricky tho!:)

Well OP, you obviously didn't grow up during the last recession where not having cabbage and spuds growing in your garden meant no dinner!

Most people in this country are either the undeserving poor (ie.dolesters) or else they are working class. The majority are not middle class OP.

I'm quite happy in my position of upper upper class tbh. Anything with 'middle' in it just doesn't sound affluent enough.
