I was in Cork today and the roundabouts on the South Ring had women selling Newspapers when the traffic lights were red. How insane is this like? While they had Yellow Reflective Jackets on them I still think they are an awful danger to themselves and to us motorists. Imagine running over one and the consequences? Imagine the insurance and legal mess:eek:

They appeared to be Romanian not that it matters but I can't help but feel sorry for them as I spotted how one womans face lit up like she won the lottery when one person bought the paper of her. It is really scrapings of the barrel stuff that these poor people are dodging cars and traffic to sell a few cruddy newspapers. They are rather distracting also, and appear to operate in teams at the entrances to the roundabouts and where the traffic backs up.

Does this happen in Dublin? (I always take the train up so haven't driven), I wonder is this even legal? It is a danger and distraction to motorists and worse still it is only a matter of time before one of them gets mown down:(

Wow. Happens alot around Dublin and has done for as long as I can remember, probably much longer than that too.

One must question why they continue to do same. Last time I checked the profit on a newspaper is small < 10%. Even if they were getting the papers for free it still wouldn't be worth the effort involved. Clearly it is for some. I wonder are same claiming dole?

It is only a recent appearance to me in Cork, I have never seen it before, I had heard of the bucket of suds and "wreck your windscreen guvnor" at traffic lights before but not this.

Jesus this has been the norm from when I was a kid and before. In fact , before the foreingers came in, most of the time it was kids that used to sell the papers at lights.

There used to be a guy with one leg selling papers at the lights at Donnycarney Church on the Malahide Road in Dublin. I always wondered if it was an occupational injury.

Is that the guy with the malformed leg up on the crutch. He appeared in Newbridge for a while in January. We also had the girl with the crutch and pronounced limp. She used to be at the M1/M50 southbound slip, also M50Ballymun Northbound slip and seen her at a junction on N4 for a while near Newcastle lights when they were there. Had a few window washers also who were very aggressive about getting paid for dirtying your window. Picked on women a lot. I found opening the window, leaning out and telling him to f**K off seemed to do the trick. They also used to be on the M50/M7 redcow southbound before it became a freeway exit. Used dirty rain water from a ditch there. Even the paper seller at redcow was wary of them.

Very aggresive beggars (knocking on windows and shouting abuse when not paid) at the Kylemore road Luas stop. When they have no potential passengers to annoy they come over to the cars turning right at that junction.

As for paper sellers on junctions they are everywhere in Dublin but generally Polish people and in Belfast they seem to be all Romanian, expecially around Belfast/Lisburn outbound.

I lived in Palmerstown so actually knew of this girl being there a long time, I talked to her once while waiting for the lights..anyhew last year I was in Rome off the beaten track down a side street cafe and she hobbled past me in normal (as opposed to dirty etc.) clothes. It was defo her as the missus was with me too and agreed. I was so intrigued by this. I saw her only recently again begging in Lucan , I hope she does'nt think I'm stalking her...:p

Has anyone come across the romanians handing out the cardboard air freshners for your car?
I thought it was some kind of free promotion. The minute the lights turns red and the cars stop they run along handing them out and then go back to the 1st car asking for €2. I just handed it back and so did everyone else. Fcuking scam !

Lads you should go to South Africa and drive around Johannesburg.:D

At the lights you can buy nearly anything; sunglasses, cold drink, mobile phone accessories, biltong, jewelry, toys, car accessories, clothes, shoes, caps, fruit, nuts,...

    It's like a big drive-through shop!:D

The paper guy on the Nephin Road at the Navan Road use to stop at my car everyday for a chat, never bought a paper off him but he used to just have an oul natter to me!

And one of the lads in work from Lucan used to get The Star for an Indian guy on his way in, and after a while the guy used to leg it straight to his car everyday, even if he didn't want the paper he'd buy it because he felt bad!

And the dude on the M50 roundabout at Nlanch handing out Herald Am's is the happiest person in the world, big friendly "good morning" and "Enjoy your weekend" on fridays! Used to put me in good humour!!!

Was there a couple of years ago & seen them selling fruit. I wouldn't open the window there no matter how hungry.

The bloke selling the Evening Herald at the lights on Glasnevin Avenue (at the junction with Ballymun Rd) wears shades, has 1 leg of his trousers rolled up, and walks with a put on 'gangsta' limp! then he nods at everyone in each car he walks past! mad thing!
