QUICK Question that has always plauged my mind, say for example i bought a passat 1.9tdi and remapped it to 130bhp, would it have the same kind of drive as the 130bhp red i model in terms of pickup and acceleration?

Simple answer yes, it can actually be mapped to over 145bhp with more torque than a standard 130bhp passat.

But, dependig on the quality of the remap, you can have it tailored to some extent to your own preferences

its just, i remember having a drive of a 130bhp red i model and it had a really beefy pickup when the turbo engaged, would this be the same if i remapped a 115 tdi standard model?

This thread made me think about it so i looked it up:rolleyes:. According to this, for the UK market anyway, there was no 115bhp TDi.I imagine there was no 115bhp option over here. OP, maybe the car you drove was upped from 100bhp to 130bhp? Afaik the 115bhp was only ever in the A4

sorry i meant the 110bhp model lol. im looking at too many audis, but my point kinda still remains, if i remapped the 110bhp standard model, would it drive the same as the 130bhp red i model?

The 110 will remap up to 140bhp but the torque will not be quite as good as a standard 130.

Where does that leave you with insurance and stuff?

Someone always asks that, where do you think that leaves it? Besides, a TDI 115 to 140bhp, its not going to make enough difference to get you into trouble (on the road) and its a remap, a software tweak, not sticking in bigger turbos and injectors.

You will have to notify the insurance company that you have a performance chip added to the car (may not result in loading) otherwise you're driving without.

as far as i know it doesnt affect the insurance cause ya dont gotta tell the insurance company, reason being that say if you crash, they wont check the cars ecu to check for a remap, or so ive been told lol

while this is tru, you can also map the car for economy! im wondering if a letter from the mapper and receipt to say its a map for fuel economy and not extra power would help in any way.

a mapper we were talking to last weekend said he has done many many trucks and the companies always say that if we save one MPG per truck its a 30k saving per year on fuel

The 115bhp version was also in the last of the old model Superb - Dec '06 onwards I think.

As for not telling the insurance: I'd hate to find out the hard way that they void your cover if/when they find out...

honestly the best car ive ever owned was a 110bhp hdi 406, ive had 10 cars at this stage and its the best ive had although, i think a remap really would have to be a must for a 406. once i either nct (or put a match) to the celica lol im defiatly going back to diesel:D

You were told wrong, really depends on the severity of the claim but if it's big enough thay will check everything.
Insurance companies are well aware of the tuning potential of a remap, and pretty much every other mod you can make, if they're not told then that's non-disclosure and a breach of the contract, they read these boards regularly too btw.

Notify if you're mapping for economy, they most likely won't load on that but it's better to have it done kceire.

ya the 115 was only golf, bora, never in the passat. mapping the 110 and comparing it to a 130 I'd say would be very hard to notice much difference on it.

Depends how its mapped as well. Will drive slightly more like a petrol with the map as the torque curve can be smoothed out so no big whack as the turbo kicks in but more of a constant lump of power there when you put the foot down. More power earlier in the rev range as well.

I had a 115 remapped and it was very quick.

one thing ya gotta remember, ya dong get sumthing for nothing, more horsepower = more fuel used, ya only really gain on mpg with the remap on motorway driving

ya this is true to an extent but to be honest, I didnt really notice any change in mpg at all. Around the city it stayed the same. maybe a petrol remap would be more vulnerable to this but diesel is so economical anyway
