The Value of Money

You have a hundred 1c coins, and a €1 coin.......

If you melt down the hundred *'coppers' and you melt down the €1 coin, which is worth more?

i.e. what is the value of the metal that coinage is made from?

If the metal that *'coppers' are made from is worth more, does that mean that you have a more valuable asset if you change all your savings into 1c, 2c & 5c coins, melt them down and sell the metal??!?!

*coppers aren't 100% copper as far as I know.

They'd be worth a similar amount, isn't all money electroplated?

The metal coinage is made from is practally worthless, you'd waste more resources melting it down than the resulting pool of metal would pay for.

how about if you changed all your money into notes, burnt them, compacted the ashes and sold them on to art supply shops as artist charcoal? would that be worth more?

But you won't go to jail for it. Just ask the bankers.

I thought this thread is about how people dont apprciate the value of money, items or people etc anymore (price of everything and value of nothing type)

My mistake for taking it a serious thread in AH
    Doh

But what if someone bought your coppers with a worthless piece of paper?

    Iron-ic that the 10c, 20c, 50c have more copper in them than the "copper" 1c, 2c, 5c.

I'm amazed at the amount of people who don't really understand why the recession came about.
