Does anyone know of cheap academy hair cuts/colours around Dublin (or beyond). Prices, days etc.

I rang up the house of colour the other day and they quoted 140 I think it was for a full head of highlights and a cut which I thought was a bit given it was a class.

I know the David Marshall academy on georges st does not work on a Fri but think you can make an appointment for any other time.

There is also the Peter Marks Academy in Stephens Green and the Robert Chambers Academy on Grafton Street. Usually about €20 for a cut.

I'm not doubting you but €140 is about right for a 'normal' cut and colour in HOC. Do you think they quoted you a normal price rather than understanding that you wanted a price for a 'model' cut and colour?

    that is ridiculous!
these do full head highlights and cut from 90 and they're not students www.naturellesalon.com

I'm pretty sure if you search this forum you'll find people talked about it previously i think i saw prices like 25-30 for colour and cut by students...

My housemate got her hair cut and coloured (highlights) in David Marshall for €70 a few weeks ago. However, on the downside, she was there for five and a half hours....

I normally get my hair done in naturelle. I love them. The only thing is they dont tend to do much with the cut. But with the length my hair is now its around 100 quid anyway. Peter mark quoted me 60 so I think i have to go with them. I will definitely try the David Marshall place though because I really don't trust Peter Marks.

And I definitely got the House of Colour School. Double checked and everything. Full head of highlights and a cut. She might have said 120, but it was between 120 and 140 and that's way too much for me.

    I hate poverty!!

L'oreal Academy on the corner of Harcourt Street/Hatch Street

The classes there are brilliant - a colour is €20 (might be 30 now actually) and the cuts are free

They do all sorts of classes - basic to fashion techniques

It all depends on what you're loking for - in the fashion techniques classes you'll be expected to go a bit "different" colourwise but you're getting the best colourists

Just ring them up and ask what classes they have available - If you're getting a colour you'll have to get a patch test done either in there or you can go to any Peter Marks to get one done

Robert chambers on grafton street are quoting €78.

Do you think the difference between them and peter mark would be worth 18 quid.

    I repeat... I HATE POVERTY!

I went into the Robert Chambers one on Grafton street. They quoted 80 something euro for full head of highlights and a cut. The highlights were fine, a bit yellowy though, but they said they didnt have time to do the cut. I had a party in 2 days and they when they saw my face fall the manager said one of the girls would take the weight out of it, just thin it out a bit.So that was all well and good, but when I went downstairs they charged me full whack as if i'd gotten a proper cut. I'm terrible at complaining so I just left and didn't tip (was too broke to anyway)

What did she expect though? It's training classes.
When i was training that was my pet hate, people complaining about the time it takes, your getting it done for more than half price or even for free. Everyone has to learn sometime. Highlights are so hard to do when you start out.
Don't go to training classes expecting to be out in 2 hours!!

    Hi,
What's the craic with these classes? Can you choose what you want done or are you a guinea pig?

You get to choose what you want done, as long as it is what the apprentices need. That's usually for cuts though, usually in training there is always someone on highlights or tints.

Got a full head of highlight and cut for 50 euro in Bellisimo academy in Limerick. WAs very happy with it. Have gotten my hair coloured and highlighed there as a regular client and the prices really are good in comparison.

The only complaint I had was I found the girls at the counter quite brisque and no real hello or thanks from them. They should improve this as does not give a good impression.

They have the prices of the academy on their webside
    http://www.bellissimo.ie/discount-prices.

Will get my hair coloured here again but would prefer to get the cut done by someone more senior.

The EXACT same thing happened to me. They did my highlights too stripey and they said they didn't have time for the cut. I went in the next day to get the highlights fixed and they STILL didn't cut it!

Had a terrible experience in the hair academy by Camden St a few weeks ago, opposite the Camden Court hotel. Really bad attitude as well, on top of the bad haircuts. Never again. Saving up to go to a proper hairdresser to fix it now :'(

Go back in and ask can they fix it, they fixed mine and it wasn't as bad as what yours sounds- it was just a bit stripey. Don't be afraid to complain but be nice about it. At the end of the day the students are supervised, the supervisor for my do came over and checked it herself a few times. Did they ask you at the end if you liked it? When the supervisor asked me I said that the colours were fine but it was stripey- I was polite but assertive about it- and she offered for me to come in and get it fixed the next day, which I did.

I wouldn't go back to House of Colour ever again. Went to training school. It usually costs me 25e for half head of highlights, and now in this time of recession they've decided to charge 35e !!

There doesn't seem to be any consistency on their pricing..my sister also gets her hair done there too and can range from 13e to sometimes 45e for the exact treatment every time!

Also, I don't mind that it takes about 4 and a half hours, as they have to learn, but coming in for an appointment for 10am and not taken until 11.30 is not good customer service.

When the teacher checked my highlights at the end of the session, she talked through all the faults in front of me and the trainee, without any regard that I was still a paying customer and my hair had not been done correctly. My highlights looked ridiculous and there was no apology or they didn't offer to make another appointment to fix them..it was only when i went home and looked under the lights that I saw that I had about three different colours in one strand of hair!?

I'm now in search for another salon.....:(

I was wondering, has anyone ever gone to the Global Hair Academy in Dublin? I have an appointment for this week and I am wondering is it any good?
I was quoted €71 for a full head of high-lights, which I thought was pretty dear for a student hairdresser. Does anyone know anywhere else that is any good, but cheap!?
