just wondering if anyone knows how you would go about getting a barrister to be your master? how far in advance do you have to secure one and what is the process? i dont have any contacts in law so i am at a bit of a loss to know how this is done.

    Thanks

The King's Inns have a list which is assigned to them etc. It's a case of applying to masters.

According to any of my BL friends its not difficult at all. Most barristers are happy to take on a free lackey for a year.

I think it's relatively easy to get your hands on the list of Barristers who will take on devils but that's not to say that they're not already booked up for several years!

One barrister I use on a regular basis has devils lined up to 2012. Granted he has a very busy practice but it might be indicative of the numbers currently applying so it's probably worth getting your name in the frame sooner rather than later

    thanks for the advice everyone!
Just wondering, if you are just given a list of names how do you know who are the busy ones or the really good ones that I should be aiming to devil with?

Talk to your lecturers or tutors in the inns which could give you an idea.
Try to find anyone in the library to ask. Work on referrals - if you find someone who is very busy and very popular but already taken, ask them if they can recommend someone else.
