    Great film.

    Cheers Paul for posting it.

Thought that it was great what Hubert Sumlin said @ around 01.07.00-ish

Basically that he's never been a millionaire, but he is one becuase he is doing something that he loves. Its sincerely from the heart.

Happiness, enjoyment & fufilment, as a result of loving the music that you love.

Lets face it.. Thats what most people are ever going to get out of it.

Now - Back to my life :pac:

I found it interesting but I thought it had an angle that just doesn't cut it for me.

The " All I want to do is play - the music biz dun me wrong " story I've been hearing from my early days in the biz.

That, to me, is a very immature and patently unworkable route through music inevitably ending in two types of failure.

One is , 'I never got a chance, poor little me' . Yer man in the film that Clapton played with came across like that to me. Playing 'historical' music which blues obviously is, is a sure fire way of not getting an audience. If it's 'success' (record sales) you're after, that's no way to get it. If that's not what you're after then bend your strings away .... remember Clapton got big in the 60s and a lot of his later output has been pop with a bit of bluesy guitar on it.
He, or his people, know what side his Blues Bread is buttered on. Hubert has it worked out right ...

The other route is 'I sold loads of records, how come I've no money ?' - that's equally as bad/sad.

An allegory is music is your house.
You like where it is and it's furnished and decorated to your liking.
However, you don't head off and leave the windows and doors open and the car keys on the table, because when you come back the car and TV will be, unsurprisingly, gone.

That's the same as your music - if it's not guarded with the same fervour as your material possessions it will be taken from you. As sure as eggs is eggs.

'But I'm a musician - all I wanna do is play, Man ' is a fool's defense. Take care of the shyt or you'll have nothing to take care of.

I do agree with the 'Clear Channel' example up to a point - that is music for people who don't listen to music - but in a democratic state that's allowed.

We all know it's now easier to find music you like online, Spotify, Last FM , my favourites BBC6 Music and recently NME radio (or similar) weren't around when I was a boy and balances out what Clear Chan etc are at.

It was interesting to note that most of the voxpops they did didn't listen to CC's radio stations either.

It seems to me the film had a populist slant that I disagree with, namely 'Isn't the music biz bad?'

Yea? But it was always so.....

There was something slightly weird about her giving out about music nowadays being all about image, while sporting that mad hairdo.

Some interesting parts to the film, mainly around the Clear Channel stuff.
