Jarvis Cocker: Further Complications

One of the UK's best ever popstars (in the ''plucked from obscurity'' sense of the word rather than ''The X Factor'' thing it means now) has just released his second solo album - anyone bought it?
If you never liked Pulp, you may well like this. It'a his most unpredictable album since This Is Hardcore (or Relaxed Muscle if we're counting that one).

Produced by Steve Albini, half of the album is brash and noisy with some great riffs (and the odd saxophone and chain-saw thrown in). The other half is just great songwriting, complete with Jarvis' witty as ever lyrics. Real soul-type songs - ''I Never Said I Was Deep (But I Am Profoundly Shallow'') and a fantastic Barry White groove as an album closer, ''You're In My Eyes (Discosong)''. Highly recommended.

I see he's playing live soon too. Hopefully he'll add an Irish date. His Electric Picnic performance was savage.
At a short gig at a Rough Trade shop at the weekend he introduced one of the new songs from the album by saying: ''This one is about being in a museum. Surrounded by dead things. And then getting an erection. Not - from looking at the dead things. That would be ugh...''

I've heard a couple of the tracks off this, it seems quite different from the first album, much louder for a start! What i've heard so far, i'm not sure about, i'll give it a proper post once it's had some time to sink in. Although it being Jarvis it will probably be better than alot...
