    Dia duit!

I hope this is in the right forum...

Since I'm still a beginner, I won't try to embarrass myself in Irish.:)

A few of us have started an online petition to add an Irish Language setting to Facebook. With over 300,000 speakers and students of the language, we believe it to be a worthy cause.

Please take a moment to sign, and pass this link to anyone else you think may be interested.

    Go raibh maith agat!:)

I don't know that there's anything in it for FB, but they have nothing to lose. They add new language setting once in a while, and we'd love to see Gaelige as one of them.:)

Enough time and money is already wasted on converting pointless things into Irish.

Fortunately, this isn't a matter of money. I don't think it costs the FB developers a cent to add new setting.

But, to each their own opinion.:)

The Irish setting is there already !!! Did you forget to look under GAEILGE ???

    FAIL.

Lol. I love English(Pirate)! Not sure about its cultural significance (even though I'm a Morgan on my Mother's side')), but it's fun!:D

I live in a bilingual country (Canada), and I think having two languages adds to the cultural tapestry that is Canada. This is why I'm so passionate about seeing Irish become part of the mainstream in Ireland. I can understand the resistance to it, in terms of time and money, but I think it's worth it in the long run to make an already rich culture and heritage even richer. Our language (imo) is always going to be a part of who we are, whether we know it or not.:)

Nice to meet you too. Haven't seen it, and we looked. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I haven't come across it.

I try to be damn polite when dealing with new people online. I don't think I'm asking too much to ask the same.

    We'll look again...

    Slan.

That's odd...must have to do with different servers. We don't apparently have a foroysky setting either. Oh well, thanks.:)

You nan not access it by simply tabbing the language setting at the bottom of the page , Yo must access the settings page for your account .

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9 MacMaghnuis

Well, it didn't show up in either the language settings menu at the bottom of the profile page, or the language menu in the account settings...at least not on my friend's or mine. Where we did find it was in the language menu in the translation app, and it works from there.

I still wouldn't call it an epic FAIL since it's not easily reached (and the menu you posted in the other thread looks nothing like ours...gotta love FB,lol), but at least we found it, and can point our N. American friends in that direction.

    Thanks again.:)

Actually you CAN access it via the language setting at the bottom of the page, but the list is not fully alphabetic....

I still think it has something to do with servers in different countries (For example, in Canada, we have a Francais (Canadian) setting), because we went through thoroughly before posting the petition. Here, it can be found in the 'translate Facebook' app. Anyway. we found it, and thankfully, we only have 35 people on the petition to email, lol.

I never meant to cause a dispute, and I really do appreciate the help. Quite a few students over here will benefit from using it to use the language in a more 'imersive' way.:)
