So i've got a dell XPS M1710 and the power supply died on me. It's a 19.5V one, pretty standard I'm sure.

Would anyone here have a spare one they're not using? I'm prepared to pay too!

I tried calling that laptop shop today but to no avail, are they still open?

Finallly, would i be wasting my time going into pc world to try get an adapter from their repair team? I don't really want to go the dell route because i'm way out of warranty and need it fairly urgently.

    Thanks (sent from my phone!)

You can buy power supplies with universal adapters in Maplan and PCworld. You get a load of little connectors and you can just attach whichever one that fits your laptop power entry point to the power supply cable. They are here in this picture http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=225874 . You can also buy the little connectors seperately I think.

If I've totally misunderstood the question I apologise. I think that's my first ever attempt at technical help on boards. ie ...or anywhere else .:)

maplin has the universal ones for around 60 euro if you can't wait the mailing time - and they're very helpful in there.

PC world sell them but they're stupidly expensive, as others have already said.

the maplins chargers have extra connections for phones and usb devices too.
just make sure you check the watts of your laptop (more important than voltage) and the charger you buy.

    high end laptops are 90watts+

Yeah, if your computer is an M1710, its likely fairly high-spec (high end graphics etc), and draws a good deal of power. A lot more than the average laptop, so the standard 'universal' PSU you'll find in most shops won't cut it. I would say it could be as much as 130 Watt depending on the laptop spec.

Look at the old PSU, and make sure the new one is is rated the same or higher (in Watts or A) or you'll just fry it, or blow it's fuse. Of course, the voltage supplied must be identical.
