    Just read this... http://mamedev.emulab.it/haze/

Quite shocking, a huge loss to the project. Hope things work out...

Huge loss for the project. Sounds like internal politics bullsh*t has cost the team dearly (and Guru has shown his true colours).

    Shame.

Good article by Stuart Campbell on Mamedev: http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.com/mameover.htm

It's an old article too, so this kind of arseholery clearly isn't anything new. Makes one decent coder jumping ship even more of a shame. Good job, MAME guys!

I was going to link that Stuart Campbell article as well. MAME has been in decline for years now.

Most of the new arcade games are a bastard to emulate because of heavy encription. They've mostly faffed around doing nothing in the past 5 years, other than removing existing stuff and replacing it with half finished stuff thats 'more accurate'.

I was never into MAME, dimly aware of what it is. This Campbell guy seems passionate about it, here's an extract from the above site -

MAME has become the emulator equivalent of Windows - bloated, slow and unloved, but so overwhelmingly colossal that nothing else can hope to make a dent in its all-encompassing, suffocating monopoly. All the joy and love that used to characterise it are being sucked out piece by piece, by the sort of people who would try to "preserve" a butterfly by sticking a pin through its heart and sticking it in a glass display cabinet, where people could look at its corpse, but not watch it live and fly and do what butterflies were made to do.

    Poor MAME. Poor Butterfly.

It depends. They seem to reintroduce it and then an update that comes out that removes it every so often :/

This type of BS seems to happen a lot in the fan translation scene as well particularly the stuff about Guru and the rom dumping. There's a fan translator out there that did a lot of the early stuff but has 'bagsied' a whole heap of games to translate but hasn't made any progress on them for the past 5 years or so. It's etiquette that if a fan translation is bagsied then you don't do it.

Some one had the 'nerve' to translate on of the projects he was on and when it was released he was the first one on with his minions to give out to the guy despite his translation being stuck at 50% for over 5 years.

Seems there's some over inflated egos working on it.

And yes, mame went to the dogs awhile ago. They are trying to fit too much new hardware in despite good single hardware emulators being available to the detriment and often removal of older ones.

    mame 0.69 FTW!
