Childcare jobs

    Howdy all,

My girlfriend is looking to get into childcare i.e. in a crèche. She has a degree in psychology (was working as a child psychologist for a year in her home country in Germany).

She is planning on taking up a distance learning course in childcare next week whilst working.

Is there many jobs in this field nowadays and does anyone have any idea how much such jobs are paid?

Anyone any tips on how to find such jobs? I am worried that people will think because she is foreign that her english will not be great even though it says fluent on her cv (she has perfect english). So I was thinking her best bet would be to call to places?

Anyone got any advice or ideas?

    Thanks.

I hope by now your girlfriend has found a childcare job. A good starting point would be to look on childcare.ie and also to give a call to all the nanny agencys, I always found childminders on kildare st, a good one ph 01 6789050. Another option is that she could childmind from home. Under the pre-schools regs 2006, a childminder can look after 5 children if notifid to the HSE or 3 if not notified. As a notified childminder I charge 160 euro per child per week but would be a lot more in Dublin. If you guys are interested in this contact your loca county childcare committee and childminding Ireland for more help and advice.
    Best of luck, C :)

Thanks carolinespring. Is there are minimum qualifications required by law to be a childminder?

    Hi,

Your girlfriend should at least have first aid, child protection and it would be good for her to have fetec level 5 but she should check out if her degree would be ok. Any luck with the job hunting? Any question just let me know.:)
