**Rant**Meteor Broadband to Go

So I moved into a new place and needed some sort of broadband quick.
I went with meteor because there's excellent speeds in our area & pay as you go option is handy because I'll be getting in UPC/NTL package as soon as I get around to ringing them so it's minimal commitment.

Just found out today that if you use up your 30 day pass, you cannot purchase another one until the 30 days is up so you have to buy the daily pass which works out 50% more expensive per day.
The reason I found this out is I have totally used up my monthly allowance and now have to use my work connection: grrrrrrr!
I'm just really annoyed that I was not informed of this limitation at any stage.

Customer care were totally useless ~ sure they don't set the rules, what can they do?
I can't get a refund on the modem.
I can't use another SIM card in the same modem: In short I would have to purchase day passes for 12 days to continue using the service or buy another modem(so I can purchase a new 30 day pass).

    [/rant]

    Anyway, sorry about that rant.
Just a warning to anyone thinking of going with Meteor that they have this limitation so beware!!!!

Yes you can. Just buy a pre-pay SIM, top up by 20 euro and then buy the broadband add-on with that.

Anyway, the same issue will apply with any pre-pay mobile broadband. The allowance is designed to be used over the course of 30 days, not 18, because if they allow people to just buy more, the network will become overloaded and unusable for everyone.

jor el, are you sure? I recall using my 3 pay as you go allowance in 24 days (it stops working once the allowance is used) one month and all I did was top up for another 30 days and I was online within 2 minutes.

Wouldn't be entirely sure, no, but thought that was how it worked. Perhaps Meteor are trying not to emulate Three's problems.

    Yes.

    a) Meteor will be no better than O2/Vodafone/3 in a while if they sell any of it
    b) It makes sense that once you use up your 30 days, you have to wait. Or be someone else and get a 2nd SIM.
    c) with two accounts 15 days apart perhaps you then get to spend twice as much?

I asked them(customer care) if that would work & they said it wouldn't - I would have to buy another modem. I might get one and try it anyway.

I'm not giving out about the allowance thing - my point is if I had been told about the limit, I would not have bought the modem in the first place.
The rant/post is really just to inform other people so they would know about the limitation of the service before purchasing it...

If the second SIM works, at least I won't be spending nearly the price of 2 months for 12 days worth of broadband.

They lied, in order to get you to buy another modem, either that or they didn't actually know. A SIM from a different operator won't work, but another Meteor SIM will be fine.

I have exactly the same problem mate and was so pissed off about how they dont mention at all about this thing. Once you run out this, btw, extremely short limit of 5 GB (including uploading and downloading) you cannot top up again; so you are basically force to wait until the 30th day.... sooo annoying.
Please, for those that are thinking in meteor as a posibility dont make the same mistake as me.
    Regards
