Ok, silly question but I had to ask as it's wrecking my head... I've nothing better to get annoyed about at the moment lol :p
(And hope I have it in the right section :o )....

I had stored a plug-in air freshener (temporarily) in a press in my kitchen and it got knocked over and leaked . It was really strong smelling btw and was there for a good few days before I eventualy realised :o

Thing is, I've since taken it out, binned it and sprayed the press down with cillit bang spray. Wiped it all thoroughly with a cloth!
But the press is still stinkin' of air freshener! :(

Any ideas how to get rid of the odour?

I remember my grandad painting inside of their kitchen press with a gloss paint and then he placed a raw onion cut in half in there "to clean up the fumes."

This happened probably 20 years ago but was stuck in the back of my mind somewhere and I only remembered after reading your post.

Other readers here might be able to shed some light on this theory.

Take everything out of the press. Wash it thoroughly and dry it - don't let water soak into the wood. Leave the press open and let the air at it. You may need to wash it out a few times. Other items that were in the press will probably be contaminated by the smell so you may have to move them elsewhere or maybe even bin them. It'll take a bit of time but eventually the smell will fade. Most air fresheners are designed to evaporate - especially with a bit of heat.

Bread/baking soda is usually the best thing for absorbing smells. Some people keep a little bowl of it in their fridge to keep it smelling fresh.

If I were you I'd sprinkle some all over the area of the spill and leave it overnight. You might have to do it a couple of times, or even try making a paste with water to see if that works better.
