Am considering moving form SKY HD and Eircom to UPC. Currently have two subs to SKY and 3MB broadband with Eircom. Looks like major saving but concerned about range and quality of TV offering.

The TV isn't as good as Sky though HD is promised this year*

Their broadband is great and phone charges are cheaper than Eircom. If I were you, I would look at http://www.blueface.ie for phone. The quality won't be as good as UPC but it is a good service and very good value.

You could live with UPC cable television, but it's definitely not quite as good as Sky at the moment anyway. HD's been on the way for quite a while, so hopefully it will arrive eventually.

UPC's Digital+ box isn't quite as intuitive as Sky+, but it does hold more data and it doesn't require extra cabling. A single coax is all it needs.

I prefer the UPC channel line up to Sky, it just makes more sense for Irish viewers anyway i.e. Channel 4 etc are in sensible places in the line up.

Also, BBC 3, 4, BBC News etc are in the real EPG, not just added as other channels so you can record them!

The broadband is pretty much the best that's out there in terms of maximum speeds and it has the potential go up to 120mbit/s when they roll out DOCSIS 3.

DSL (Phone based) broadband maxes out at 24mbit/s absolutely top, even with the likes of Smart Telecom which is a fantastic ISP.

If broadband's more your thing, I'd definitley go with UPC.

If you're in love with your HD, perhaps hold off a while until UPC rolls out HD.

You could check to see if you can get Smart Telecom or BT's unbunbled broadband in your area. It goes up to 24mbits.

Also, eircom is rolling out 24mbit/s broadband at the moment, it's available in some exchanges. They're updating to ADSL2+ technology in quite a lot of areas.

I moved over from Sky+ & Eircom 10 months ago and as soon as 12 months are up I will be moving back to Sky and holding on to the UPC Broadband and Phone.

My bills for the TV are about the same as what I was paying with Sky, Broadband and Phone are perfect.

I can't live with the Digital TV any longer, the DV-R box is appalling after having Sky+, the EPG seems to have a mind of it's own as it constantly will revert back to UPC's info channel.

At this stage if there is something I really want to watch and I have to do live pause, I will make sure I set the programme to record before pausing as too many times the box crashes when I 'unpause' and suddenly I am back to live TV. Now when it happens I can just go in an look at the recorded programme.

While watching sport (which I watch a lot of) on my Sony 40" LCD, the quality is appalling, especially Golf, I now tend to watch golf on a 17" LCD upstairs as the quality is better.

All in all, I can't wait until I can make the phone call to cancel the Digital TV part of my package and get my Sky boxes out of the attic.
