(Not to be confused with the grumpy ex-Arsenal goalie)

Just wondering if anyone else is a fan of this great Swedish singer-songwriter? He doesn't seem to be very well-known judging by the lack of publicity for him when he plays here.
I think he's a fantastically creative musician; one of the most original performers out there in such a stagnant-swamp of a music industry. Some brilliant lyrics too... "When people think of Sweden,
I think they have the wrong idea,
Like Cliff Richard's who thought it was just porn and gonorrheia, And Lou Reed said in the film 'Blue in the Face' that compared to New York City Sweden was a scary place"

Anyone interested in checking him out; try 'Cold Swedish Winter', 'A Postcard to Nina' and 'Maple Leaves'

I'd put Black Cab in there too.

Jens is great, seen him play twice in Dublin and met him once as well. Last time Owen Pallet joined him on stage. Twas class.

I am in love with this man! I only have Night Falls Over Kortedala but I simply adore it. Unfortunately I've never seen him play, but have heard excellent reviews. Some day :)

"we could start a little farm with little white bunnies
just cause watching them copulate is very funny"

    Oh Jens!

He's awesome. I saw him playing in Whelan's in December '07, really memorable gig. He did an encore in the alleyway outside. Someone recorded a bit of it and put it on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4paxCw2F6g

Looks like he has a new album coming out soon! http://www.jenslekman.com/records/smalltalk.htm

Only have Night Falls Over Kortedala and I think it's fantastic. His lyrics are very witty at times. Lyrically this is my favourite song of his: A Postcard To Nina.

Nina I can be your boyfriend
so you can stay with your girlfriend
Your father is a sweet old man
but it is hard for him to understand
that you wanna love a woman

Nina I can be your boyfriend
if it puts an end to all this nonsense
First time I see you in Berlin
And you don't tell me anyting
    Until outside your dad's apartment

    Oh God, Jesus Christ
I try to focus on your eyes
we're having dinner with your family now
keep a steady look at your left eyebrow

If it's raised, it means yes,
If it's not it means take a guess
Hey! You! Stop kicking my legs
    I'm doing my best
    can you pass the eggs

Your father puts on my record
He says: So tell me how you met her
I get a little nervous and change the subject
and put my hand on some metal object
He jokes and tells that's a liedetector

He takes out the booklet and starts reading
So I heard you're moving out next season
I say: Yeah, New York is nice that time of year
almost as green as it is here
He says: I thought you were moving to Sweden?

Oh God, what have I done?
I came to Berlin to have som fun
The clock on the wall strikes four, five, six
on your fathers wall a big crucifix
Guess that's why he won't let you go
His catholic heart is big and slow
you know I'll do anything for love
but Nina what were you thinking of?

But Nina I can be your boyfriend
So you can stay with your girlfriend
Your father is mailing me all the time
He says he just wants to say hi
I send back "out of office, auto-replies"

Nina I just want to check in
'cause I think about you every second
So I send you this postcard just to say
Don't let anyone stand in your way
    Yours truly, Jens Lekman

Don't let anyone stand in your way
Don't let anyone stand in your way
Don't let anyone stand in your way
Don't let anyone stand in your way

When he says "Oh God, Jesus Christ....hey you stop kicking my legs.." in Post Card to Nina he actually sounds genuinely concerned, like he was singing it right there and then. Love that song!

I have a huge soft spot for- i just want someone to share my life with. I heard this song and then met that person a few weeks after.

I love the sincerity in his voice.

Also his small talk pages are great, send him a mail, he'll generally write back - Stay gold - Jens.

A man walks into a bar
Orders a scotch and a bottle of Coke
But the laughter is gone in his heart
You never told me the end of the joke

    Gah! The man's a genius!!

    Isn't that a cover, though?

I really like 'I Don't Know If She's Worth 900 Kronor'; great title and another biographical song inspired by a girl :D

I love Jens Lekman. I have been patiently waiting for a new release from him for ages now. Only seen him the once in Galway and I had a chat and bought an old ep from him after the gig, I told him to keep the change too, he said "I can't take it", I told him I got the ticket cheap cos I booked it online and I was just giving him the difference.

I think his wikipedia is a bit silly. He told a story how he keeps going onto it and making up silly facts about himself but some "anal douchebag in the U.S keeps changing it back to a more accurate version"!

    What a guy.

Awh, this is why Jens is a fantastic man! I really hope he pops over our way someday soon. Even just Europe. Make a trip out of it :D

Is Jens showcasing any new material, going by his website Dublin is his first port of call on a short European tour, as far as I know, he's been living down under for a good while now.
