claiming rent relief

    i will be finishing college this week and i was wondering about claiming rent relief can i only claim for one year ie 2008 so sept-dec or can i claim sept to may or can i only claim the jan-may in 2010, sorry if its confusing also i pay my rent direct debit can i use this as a receipt will a print out of rent payed do?

    I enquired abvout this before and was under the impression that you could only claim tax relief on rent if you were paying PRSI (or is it income tax?), not as a student?

    By the way, if that is the case, I think it is ridiculous that parents who are paying for their children's rent in college cannot claim tax back on it.

    i may ring them so get the full story typical i worked for 3 years to finance college and get screwed over but whats new its ireland
