01 old style laguna. changed the batteries in remote, no joy. Can I DIY or any garage reset that or do I have to go to renault and pay them a gazillion quid.

I had to get the exhaust changed on it a year ago as I could findnt any in the scraps and bosal dont do them for that particular model. I had tried all the usual exhaust fitters and all said the same thing, that I ahd to go to renault. So the total worth of car is about max 1.5k but cost me 560e for the exhaust after exhausts'r'us or one of htem were going to charge me 120. The receipt from renault actually had items like the following.
    "screw" 2 euro
"oil to fit screw" 70 cents.
"time to fit screw" 1.50 cent

    sickening.

guess thats what you pay for a quality car. yes, hmmm. if its so bleedin quality, why did the exhaust fall off and the remote stop working. grrr.

anyway rant over and any help appreciated on the remote question. :)

Exhausts go on cars. I cant see why an exhaust place couldntsupply one. They dont use anythign special. It's not something like the 3litre V6 model or anything is it?

I've never had an issue getign them done .

As for the key, is it the key card or a normal key with a plip? Are we talking about a Laguna 1 or 2 here? Either way, if it's just lost the code, a lot of key places (I know theres a specific car key place down the road from me,name escapes me) can just encode them. Even a main dealer is only around €50.

no, its a straight 1.6l model, old style key with the blip in the middle of it, not the key card on the newer model (missed the new model by 6 mnths or so).

believe me, I drove and rang around every exhaust/breakers/2nd hand dealer in dublin looking for an exhaust for it, all said generic exhausts werent made for that model laguna, and there was none in the breakers and I had to get it done.

In fairness OP the car is 8 years old, the older a car gets the higher probability that parts wear out and need replacing irrespective of what make or quality you buy.

Some remote key fobs loose their programing when the battery is changed.

A bit of googling found this on how to reprogram your Laguna's key fob:
    http://www.justanswer.com/questions/1xhh6-lock-renault-laguna-key-fob

    Give it a try.

I have an '02 Laguna. Battery died on the remote on me too. Can still open the door using the emergency key on the passengers side though easily. It slides out of the back of the card.

The keyhole itself is hidden by a cover beside the front passenger doorhandle, IIRC. Pry it off with the tip off the key (don't loose it). Should see the keyhole itself. Key in, turn it, door should unlock. OP should be able to take it from there himself.

Card should still be able to start the engine no problemo.

n/m, just realised OP was talking about the old Style model. In that case, try cleaning the IR receiver behind the mirror, or the windscreen in that area. Or the transmitter on the fob.

Also, it's a ten year old car-ish. Bits fall off. It happens.

no probs with maintenance and repair. just dont want to get madly over charged for it. Its my wifes car, Ive a 5 series that has had replacement parts in bmw and non bmw garages, there wasnt as much of a difference as there seems to be with renaults prices.

thanks for that solution, I had tried it already with no success.

    .

The Laguna uses RF for the key fob.

Just had a look on ebay, this is the first link that came up for the cat.

    https://secure.gsfcarparts.com/shop/results.asp

    GSF have it for stg£85

    https://secure.gsfcarparts.com/shop/results.asp

Eurocarparts have it listed at STG£80

They dont suggest it is anything special and its the same as the 1.8 exhaust.
