That "pilot boat" looks like it might be RNLI also; the fella on the left looks to be in a lifeboat uniform. Training boat maybe?

Extra boat down for the Volvo race. Might be RNLI but doesn't look up to spec for it. They are bringing another Atlantic 75 down for cover. The CG is basing a helo at Galway airport for cover as well.

The suit is a drysuit available to anyone for about €500. A must for anyone using a RIB a lot:)

Its def not an RNLI boat as they never carried that boat. Dont even know the make of it. Possible a reserve pilot boat??? Or just a pleasure boat?

The Rib in the photos is not an RNLI lifeboat. The RNLI will have five boats based in the bay for the race 2 Severn all weather boats and 3 Atlantic 75s or 85s inshore life boats .The Irish Coast Guard will have two Delta x 8 meter Life boats and the Gardai will have one 8 meter Delta . The Navy will have two other ribs also. Come and check these boats out State of the art .I saw one of the Coast guard ribs in Sligo last week state of the art. The told me its based in Doolin you got to see this boat and it is one of the Boats in service for the volvo ocean ,see you all there .

I was there with combat5 and that fella with, what looks like, a RNLI dry suit is in fact one of the lifeboat crew. He went out on that RIB, so probably using it for a bit of an exercise with the lifeboat. Also maybe he was there because of his experience with RIBs. Really looking forward to seeing the extra lifeboats, especially the Atlantic 85 if they send one.

Seems that one of the Severn class lifeboats could be the RNLB Margaret Joan and Fred Nye (17-46). At the moment trialing new engines around Ireland at the moment. Its Portrush lifeboat when on station.

I think maybe the RIB in these pictures is being used for ferrying people to and from the moored yachts for the VOR. They are using a RIB of some sort so presume that is the one. Just as an extra, the RNLI Atlantic 75 that arrived yesterday (B-736) was at Gravesend and Weston-Super-Mare but now in the relief fleet.

You must live within 3 miles of station and other than that all you have to do is try get in contact with your local LOM (lifeboat ops manager) and he will generally invite you down during a training ex and show you around etc and then you will be asked to turn up when boat goes out training etc to help wash it down etc for a few months and eventually you will be trained up. usually a probation period of 1 year is what it takes b4 being boat going crew. Be warned some stations are full but on the other hand others are screaming for crew.
