I've been home in Leitrim approximately 18 hours and I hate it already. All my friends have either gone to London or Dublin for work or else fecked off to America for the summer,Hyannis specifically.

I have decided to feck off to America.
    Problems:
    (1)I have feck all money.
    (2)Haven't applied for a J1.

I have worked in bars since I was 15 so I have loads of experience in that.So what do I do?Feck off over there without a J1 and try land a waitering/barman job or apply for the J1 and get some other menial job.

All opinions and thoughts appreciated.Feel free to take the piss out of me!:)
Why the hell is it raining. Its bloody May.

Hyannis!!! Small town. I worked not far from there in '03 and '04 on my J1

    Ahhh... memories.

Try Canada instead of America. So many Irish go to the states, be a little different. Might be a better chance of work over there too.

You could use your bar work experience to get a job, save up money and go to america. It would take a while, but it is a pretty simple option.

It's too late to apply for a Canadian working visa this summer. Getting fairly late in the day for the J1 too.

Try London or somewhere else in Britain,it'd be a bit cheaper and you don't need a visa.

Well.I will be in college in September.I am not going over there to make big bucks or anything.Just enough to survive on and have a good summer.
J1 visa available till may 22nd.

According to some eggheads, this summer is predicted to be a good one. Something to do with the Pacific Ocean of all places. Wouldn't trust them eggheads though.

Toronto is an amazing place. You should go there. People are really friendly and there's some great bars there too. You should have no hassle getting work there, although you really need to get a visa.

Ah now The_Dazzler, tut tut tut. Now is not the time to abandon your country and head for sunnier climates. The grass always seems greener on the other side but quite often it definitely is not.
    .
Pighead remembers living next door to a man who had a stunning girlfriend, a beautiful new top of the range sports car and the nicest house in the whole neighbourhood. Men wanted to be him, women wanted to be with him.

Then one day whilst in the supermarket Pighead seen the guy at the till paying for his groceries. He accidently dropped a tin of caviar onto the floor. Pighead bent over and picked it up. On the way up whilst passing his underarm area a pungent stink wafted up Pigheads nose almost rendering him unconscious. "Thanks very much" he said. It seemed Mr Perfect wasn't so perfect after all. Not only did he have a terrible stinky underarm problem, but he also spoke with a Roscommon accent.

Remember Dazzler "Envy is the art of counting the other fellow's blessings instead of your own.”

Wouldn't mind the opportunity to do it myself. But even with a Green Card - would it be so easy to get a job over there?

Their unemployment is at 10% now, isn't it?

You forget that the OP speaks with a Leitrim accent though.

OP, when you leave, don't forget to turn out the lights.

Whoever's considering going to Spain in search of work, just bear in mind that their unemployment figures are worse than our's... and that's saying something. May try there myself though as I can speak the language (Spanish)

Worked in Iceland last summer but obviously not much chance of going back there :D

Been in contact with a beach hostel in Holland in regards to working there, could be fun.
