Is there any specific packages that I should use or would Office or Works be fine? . Intending to write a local history book and seek subscriptions before publication, fairly sure demand is there.

Any desktop publishing package should be fine.

    I use DarkRoom.

It helps me concentrate on what I'm writing since I'm pretty sure I have undiagnosed ADHD.

If you don't already have MS word. I recommend Open Office. It's free, and can do pretty much everything that Word can do, though it doesn't have as extensive a thesaurus and some other features, but tbh I've never felt the need for them. Just make sure to remember to save your files as MS word docs when working in Open Office Writer, because that is the format most people will expect to receive any files in.

    Openoffice.org

    Good luck with the book.

Thanks...I'll certainly take a look at that...I had an old version of 'Word' and did have 'Works'....but lent a former boss the CD Rom and despite my best efforts she never returned it!.....and just recently had a hard-drive transplant....fofeiting all previous software!...
