Taking into account the extra cost of living in dublin would I be better off financially in Dublin with 47k or waterford with 30k. I am single and am paying rent for a room in a house?

While Dublin is more expensive, the extra 17k gross would easily make up for that.

Work out how much you'll be paying in rent (ave 2 bed apt in dub is around 900-1200), and see if you'd be better off.

I take it you'd be earning around 2900p/m after tax, which is plenty for a single person in our fair city :)

    Dublin > Waterford

    47k > 30k

If only all life's decisions were so easy.

You might want to look at quality of life issues as well as salary. How far would you be living from your work in Dublin and how does that compare to Waterford, not forgetting the quality of your accommodation in both place.

Plenty to consider, I would imagine, apart from salary...

Financially there's no contest. The Dublin based job will leave you with €10k extra net of tax. That's more than enough to cover any cost of living difference and leave you with plenty of extra cash in hand.
