De Facto Help

    Hey,

I'm looking at moving to Oz under a de facto/interdependent visa with my Aussie g/f around October. (Which one am I applying for by the way, it seems interdependency is for same sex couples but what are the other differences?)

By the 1st of July, we'll have been living together for a year and have a lease to prove it, we also have a joint savings account and both the phone and leccy bills are in both our names.

We have the two statements from Aussie citizens saying that the relationship is genuine and continuing (at least they're in the post now) from two girls who we met while they were travelling too (one of them lived with my g/f when we met and knew us when we moved in together too).

What other evidence does anyone think we should include?

I should add that we're making the move becasue the g/f doesn't want to be here for another winter and I'm happy to follow her, even though I'll be leaving my nice Civil service job to do it. In fact, the new career beak incentive scheme was part of the reason we decided to make the move. I'll be paid just over AUS$1,500 a month so we'll have a bit of money coming to us even without whatever jobs we get I'll take anything and she'll probably work for her folks who run a printer repair business in Brissey.

Also, with the health and character checks, do I get the Garda clearance myself or do the embassy do that themselves?

For the health check, how recent does it have to be? Days, weeks, months? Do I send it in with the original application or later?

We were thinking of including a C.V. of sorts for me to show that I'm at least employable, should we bother?

How would I mention the money we'll be getting from my career break as evidence that we can support ourselves (I know it's not a lot but it'll certainly help)?

On the form, when it asks what value of goods and money I'll be brining into the country, how exact do I have to be? Do I have to work out the value of all my clothes, cds, computer stuff (a couple of hard drives, I'll buy a new pc there) or what are they loking for? We'll be brining €8K or more with us too but that's simple enough to declare anyway.

I was going to ring the embassy later this week with these questions too. Should I, would this lok good or bad?

Any other tips or advice from anyone else who went through it would be most appreciated. I'm sure I'll have more questions too and thanks to anybody who can give me any info about the wall of text up there already. :)

It's a couple of years since I went through all this but you seem to be on the right track. The joint bills, bank account, lease etc are all good. I did mine in Oz but the evidence is the same.

Now that I think of it, we didn't have a joint bank a/c when I did it first but we did have the lease and some (but not all) bills in joint names. I had copies of our individual bank statements with highlighted bill payments and the corresponding bills too.

The approach I took was the more info the better. I didn't want to give them any excuse to knock it back so they got copies of photos, emails, birthday/valentines cards, invitations people had sent us, christmas cards from relations addressed to both of us, copies of receipts for stuff I ordered and got delivered addressed to herself. Anything and everything to be honest. It's hassle at the time but it's all worth it in the end.

You need to get the Garda clearance yourself. Can be a bit of a pain depending on where you're from in Ire. Some districts are better than others. It'll take a while too. Mine took about 2 months as far as I remember.

Can't really help with some of your other questions as they seem to be specific to an external application. It's the de facto visa you're after by the way. Exact same as the interdependency one as far as I know but that's only for same sex couples.

There's no requirement for the cv or details of earnings. Not that I reckon it would hurt to put it in but it probably wouldn't make much of a difference either way.

I haven't posted on here in a long time but if you have any other q's PM me, I'll get the email. I've just recently gone through the second stage of the de facto and got my PR.
