Exactly what the title says. I'm hoping to do a half marathon before Berlin this year, ideally 5 weeks beforehand, I see Longford is on 3 weeks before Berlin but is that too late. I have had a great offer from a sub 3 runner to run the adidas half marathon route with me, so I could do this also but my first preference would be for a race. Any thoughts.Thanks.

ps if there was enough of us doing Berlin could we organise our own race, again just a thought

I think if you are running it as an all out race then yes it is probably too close. If on the other hand you use it as hard pace run then maybe not.

Thanks.I would be looking to race it and get a bit of an indicator for the marathon.

    +1.

Personally, I like doing my last long (slow) run three weeks before a marathon. I'm thinking of doing the Frank Duffy 10 miler the previous week to Longford, but even that might be too close to Berlin.

Yeah I would be afraid of leaving your marathon time in Longford though. The 10 miler the week before that Daithi mentions might be more suitable !

I've just checked the date of the Frank Duffy race and it's on the 15th of August which is 5 weeks (and a day) before Berlin. I reckon that's about perfect, so I'm planning that as my last race before the marathon.

I always found the half marathon to be the toughest race. It is a distance that you can go flat out and would normally leave you very depleted. The marathon, on the other hand, is a race where you can run a more even tempo. In my opinion, doing a half marathon 3 weeks before your target marathon is too close. Do a time trial instead. No pressure.
