External Media-Hard Drive Problem

    Hi,

I have one of those external media hard drives that you can plug straight into your TV. It was working fine for over a year until the other day. Now when i connect it to my PC, it makes the "bing" sound, but it doesn't start to autoplay, and when i go to "my computer" to check it, after hanging for a few minutes "my computer" opens up but the hard drive doesn't appear (it's usually drive M). The 2 internal hard drives appear as normal.

If i go to "safely remove hardware" in the system tray the device Drive M appears there and if i disconnect it makes the "bing" sound again. I've also tried right-clicking on "my computer" and gone to manage -> storage -> disc management (local) and the drive appears there but if i right-click and try to open or explore then it just hangs again.

I've tried different USB leads to connect the hard drive to the PC and tried using different ports but it doesn't make any difference.

If anyone has any suggestions or thoughts i'd be really grateful. Thanks
