    Hi there
I am looking for maize bales. Any idea of what price they are going for at the moment. Would need them delivered to cork. I have seen an ad in the journal for maize but its in dublin. I guess they would need a mininum order to deliver so far and I only need 10 to 15 bales. Any info welcome
    Thanks
    Brian

Hard enough to find I would think, I'm not sure how many of those maize balers are in the country, or even how much maize could be left in pits at the moment. Fodder is very scarce around here at the moment and cattle are going back inside at the moment.

    Hi there,
I have maize bales for sale myself. Theres 300 in my own yard near Bandon and i have another 300 in a yard near Midleton. This year they are making 60 euro out of the yard. This is my fourth year making them now and always sold out by mid Feburary. Can deliver aswell anywhere in country but at an extra charge.

What's the story with baling maize? Is there any way to bale it in a conventional round baler, or do you need one of those special Orkel jobbies? (Assuming of course that it's cut with a harvester and tipped in a yard)

At time moment i use an Orkel MP2000. Next year im hoping to have a Goweil LT Master. A conventional baler wont work because the material is so fine it will just fall through the rollers. Also the chamber has to be filled from the top. I suppose a conventional baler could be modified be it would take a lot of work to get it right. The crop has to be harvested as normal anyway to crack all the corn.

50 euro per bale but im told by so called experts that this is better value than silage in a bale at 20 quid

energy. on a cost per ufl (energy value) it is cheaper than 2nd cut silage teagasc told us. its also a very good balancer if highly stocked to be fed at grass to extend the rotation

Hi Bioplantagri. I have never seen maize baled. I have only seen it pitted. What size are the bales from the Orkner MF2000. How would you rate the feeding capacity to round bale silage.
