Disposing of old car

My OH has a 1995 Opel Astra sitting in our driveway which hasn't moved in about 2 years. The suspension is shot and I doubt that the car can be put back on the road. It has no NCT and is off the road for tax purposes.

It's time to move it on, and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions i.e. breakers yards etc. I'm based in D6.

Unless you can get the car to the breakers yard they will charge you for coming out and collecting it from you.

Give your local council a ring, they should have a service for disposing of old cars.

Just put a few adds up saying 'free car' and state what you have already said in your post.

Somebody will take it of your hands.

I did this with an 10 year old fiat punto that had been sitting in the driveway for 5 months (no tax, no nct and head gaskest was gone). i striped it out before it was taken away so it doesn't matter what state its in.

yer man just stuck it on a trailer and drove off and i sent the booklet back into the department of transport saying it had been scrapped.

    done and dusted.

There's an EU ELV directive that says manufacturers are obliged to take them back, or something along those lines. It's normally in the back of the brochure for new cars.

they are required to take them back by the Eu Directive.
Each manufacturer usually appoints a few salavage yards around the country to accept there cars. If you ring your manufacturer, or it can be found on the net, they will tell you who will take them.... but they won't dome to you to collect (unless you pay the salvage yard a collection fee), you have to get it to them....

    Buyandsell.

There always seems to be people with adverts up looking for free cars, or you could throw one up yourself saying that you have a free car to give away. Should be gone in no time.

Thortons in Park West scrap cars under ELV directive. I don't know how much it costs but you should ring them.
