Did the water seep down the side of the screen? If it did, turn it off, remove the battery and try and clear as much of the water as possible. It's hard to know what you mean by a "mark" on the screen, it could be a damaged screen, it could just need to be cleaned.

Likelyhood of damage increases with how much water was spilt. How did it happen? Did it just catch some rain blown in an open window or did you trip with a cupful of water on your way to brish your teeth?

TAkE out the battery ,what mode is it.ON youtube theres videos re opening repairing laptops.CAN YO PuT IT uPSIDE DOWN,so water drains out arch it over to one side.Place it over a heater at Low heat.turn on central heating. You have to remove all water from motherboard and screen otherwise the mobo/inverter,powerunit will short circuit the pcb.
post what model is it,eg sony480x. See sumthing like this,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGFI9dQu7Po GO TO YOUTUBE SEARCH REPAIR / your model here.CAN you get some1 to point hairdryer on Low heat at the screen moving it over the affected area.
IF YOU HEAT UP the Laptop, evaporate some water theres less chance of it suffering permanent damage.it taes opening 7/8 screws approx to open the screen ,cover.
YOu HAVE to make sure all the water is gone.THE COVER will have 6 screws approx holding on to the lcd.YOU will need 1 or 2 small philips screwdrivers. You may need to remove the pastic panel near the bottom of the screen if its hp or a toshiba.
DO NOT turn on the laptop until you are 100percent sure all the water has gone.

like leather, don't use heat to remove excess moisture as you increase the chances of stuff drying into the system

hold laptop unpside down so liquid can't get into the base
battery out ASAP, use tissue paper to wick away as much as you can

leave it alone for a few days to dry out

to clean the screen / plastic use wipes for spectacles
