BOLT BACK WITH A BANG!

Usain Bolt picked up where he left off in bejing today with another world record. The 22 yr old Jamacan lowered Donovan Baileys time of 14.99 in the rarely contested 150m clocking a time of 14.36.
One of the most startling things about this run was his ability to run his first hundred in a time of 9.9 despite appearing rusty and getting off to a bad start. Pretty crazy to see no limits for this young superstar

I wonder if it will be ratified, being on a straight track like

    Astonishing run.

Cold, wet track, dodgy start and apparently he's not in peak condition and he still ran a time like that.

He looked like a steam train. He builds momentum and then just gets faster and faster.

I feel privileged to be able to see him run....people will be telling their grandchildren about Usain Bolt in years to come:D

Disappointed and surprised this didnt even get a mention on the news.

Surprised because this is something people would be genuinely interested in, the race only takes 15 seconds to show and they showed cycling and even a sailing race:eek:

In fairness though to RTE, it wasn't really a big important race. Ok it shows us that he is in really good shape but like it wasn't his season opener as he ran a few 400's and a 100m back in march and the 150m isn't an important distance.
According to the beeb it won't be ratified as it isn't a proper world record distance.
I'm not trying to take away from it though, it's exceptional running. After all he covered 50m-150m in 8.70s!!!:D:)

Last year was his first?

And no, the 'record' won't be ratifed. The IAAF, according to rule 261, doesn't recognise the 150m for record purposes. Anyway, world records for track events must be made in a stadium which meets the stringent specifications laid out in their Track and Field facilities manual.

Bolt's time will now be ratified by the International Association of Athletics Federations as an official 'world best', though it is his 100m split-time that will send shockwaves across the world - 9.90sec on a rain-soaked track in temperatures more common to February than mid-May.
To put that into perspective, Dwain Chambers managed 10.21sec in his first 100m of the season on Saturday in the tropical heat of Puerto Rico. The Briton's talk of 'Project Bolt' looks precisely that: just talk.

How can they ratify it if they don't recognise it for record purposes?

Did I hear Jonathan Edwards say he did a flying 8.72" 100m

Unbelievabale performance again, he made the other sprinters look ordinary
