Acer BIOS Password Help

I have an acer travelmate 7730g. I turned off the fingerprint securlty and am now presented with a password request before anything boots up. The thing is I don't remember ever setting this password up. I have tried the backdoor passwords I found online but none of these work.

The error message I get is System Disabled 04359.

I'm not convinced that removing the CMOS battery will reset the password. Plus I'm not too comfortable doing this.

If anyone could offer some assistance or point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

removing the battery will not reset the PW

did you have a windows password , try that ?

Check if there is a way to turn on the finger print password again without having to get into the BIOS

    Thanks for the reply Captain,

I had/have a windows password but it was 12 characters long and the password for the bios appears to allow a max of 8. I've tried everything I can think of password wise and nothing has worked. Like I said I don't remember setting a password for this in fact I'm pretty sure I didn't but that's besides the point at tihs stage.

I shall continue my googling, in the meantime any suggestions are greatly welcome!

    try the the 12 charcters / first 8 / last 8 anyway
and on some netbooks the BIOS password is only stored in UPPERCASE so try that too

any half way decent laptop made this millenium stores it's password in flash, so battery won't help, also IBM thinkpads won't boot if the checksum fails so even zeroing the chip may not help

Cheers again Cap'n, no joy though. :(

Acer will restore the BIOS to default for €60 including shipping so I reckon I'll just bite the bullet and shell out the cash.

What's weird is that phoenix reckon you can reset the cmos by taking the battery out. But I'm still unconvinced about that solution tbh.

    thanks for the effort.
