Heres the situation: I'm in first arts, I deferred my xmas exams and have to do them this week. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna fail (maybe I should be studying instead of going on boards all day ;) ). I've been looking on the college website and haven't found much. All I know is that you can repeat internally or externally(this is cheaper).

Plus, I'm doing a B.A Connect so would this affect the possibilty of repeating...? would I have to repeat all four subjects?

Can anyone tell me anything they know about it please! Like regarding fees, applying for Student Assistance Fund(what I'd need for applying, how much I might get- my Dad is a single parent I was on a full Grant this year) any extra funding I could get from anywhere - anything that you know would be helpful.

And one last thing, can I still repeat externally if I take a year out first to save up some money (I know that I wont get a maintenance grant from the Co. Council o I really would need to save up.)
    :(

You really should go to Student Services to be 100% BUT

I repeated externally, like you got the full maintance grant, paid €1400 to repeat externally. I worked through my repeat year as I only repeated 3 subjects.

I heard that external was no longer available so I suggest you check that.

Had to take a loan out to repeat as County Coucil (understandbly) won't pay for it.

You'll get your grant back in full when you finish your repeat year and enter 2nd year.

AFAIK you can take a year out and then repeat externally.

As for student assistance, I did not apply, so I can't help you. I don't think you can apply for it if you are in receipt of a grant.

Also don't know anything about Connect.

Make out a list of questions for Student Services and get them to answer them. Or alternatively go to Student Union Education or Welfare officers. They are nice and supportive and understanding.

    Study hard.. Good luck

:o thanks! I ended up emailing my class coordinator and not only did she NOT answer my questions but she referred me and forwarded my email to the VICE DEAN of Arts, who rang me and said that "You can't give up now, as I can see you have put a lot of effort in"(I got very good results from my semester two exams). Which was not only awkward for me having just woken up, but a bit weird and still didn't answer a single of my questions. Not that she isn't a lovely person but she seemed to have it in her head that I wasn't going to attend my deferred exams. Anyway, rant over....
Basically thanks, I didn't even think of Student Services or the SU, but tbh I'm not too fond of those at the SU from any experience I've had so far this year. If Student Services can't help then I will def try the SU.
