I believe a god like God exists because it makes sense of the magnificance of the universe and its biosphere, and it makes sense of the pangs of conscience over sin I got as an unbeliever.

I believe that god is God because He revealed Himself to me by His Spirit - convincing me of the truth of the gospel message and all the Bible says. He has also confirmed that by way of answered prayer many times in my life.

I always yearned for God. I always thought there was something more to life and I thought it was God. In my teens I wanted to find Him or search for Him or at least find some proof. I didn't have to go very far because he was there with me, calling me, the whole time. All I had to do was reach out. So it was very much a spiritual conviction and then an awesome sense of freedom. Only later did I get into the gospel and the intricacies of the Christian faith. So in essence, it was God's love for me that brought me to Him.

Good thread Lovethinking. I was thinking of doing a similar one but entitled "Why do you belive in Jesus?"

I believe in God for lots of reasons most of which are difficult to explain to someone who doesn't believe.

    I believe because...

    - There is something at the very core of my being that tells me that God exists.
    - there must be a First Cause
    - because of the beauty of nature
    - the fact that anything at all exists
    - the amazing abilities and faculties of human beings that go way beyond the physical.
    - morality
    - the beauty and existence of the laws of nature
    - the beauty of a smiling baby or a beautiful woman.
    - the existence of life and it's incredible complexity
    - the existence of the conscience.
    - life is ultimately pointless without God
    - the existence of love
    - the very fact that so many humans crave knowledge of and a relationship with a supreme being
    - prayers that have been answered
    - the fact that I have such great peace and joy when I make a special effort to do God's will as revealed by Jesus.
    - miracles
    - the pleasure afforded by the senses and the providence of nature (the Goldilocks effect)
    - the significant fundamental limitations of science
    - the anthropic principle
    - sex
    - Godel's incompleteness theorem.
    - Abiogenesis and DNA
    - testimonies of people who turned to God and whose lives were miraculously changed
    - "atheists" who are angry with God.
    - the writings of the saints
    - Jesus!

    God bless,
    Noel.

Hello, just read this and thought it was relevant:

The heavens proclaim the glory of God
and the firmament shows forth the work of His hands.
Day unto day takes up the story
and night unto night makes known the message.

I believe in God because I want to believe in Him. He gives me hope everyday and when I turn to Him, He is always there. It also gives me something to look forward to (Heaven!) and lets me know that my friends and family who have gone before me are happy, safe and guiding me through life. :D

Please note that the question is deliberately worded in a way that makes belief in God's existence a prerequisite to answering this question... please respect this.

I always had an intuitive belief that there was a God/Creator of everything, but it wasn't until I became aware of the call of God on my life that I became aware that I was against Him in every aspect of my being. I rebelled against His call at every turn, trying to convince myself (and God) that my way was the right way. I didn't want to hear the message that in order to share in His glory I must share in His suffering. I hated the message that I should take up my cross and follow Him, that I must forsake all that I have and follow Him. But even then I knew, even in the carnality of my mind and selfish ways that a message like that does not come from mere mortal men who are only out to gain profit for themselves in this life down here. So I found myself in somewhat of a pickle and eventually conceded defeat and admitted that not only did I believe that He existed but that He was in control of everything and to continue in my rebellious spirit against such a One as He would mean ultimate and everlasting damnation for me. So I accepted His call and His redemption which was wrought in Christ and have tried to live in the faith ever since.
