Just looking for a few ideas for a (week long) honeymoon in Europe. Havent gone to any travel agents yet as we are just trying to bounce a few ideas around with no success. Main problems being neither of us are into sun holidays ... we both burn in extreame heat of about 10 degrees ... whilst sitting inside!!! :P

Also, due to reasons of a footballing nature, I've covered a bit of ground across Europre (and around Ireland) so ideally I'd like somewhere I havent been before!

    Any ideas?

Thought about doing a skiing holiday but didnt appeal to either of us in the end. Fussy pair :p
Had looked into the train trips through the Rocky Mountains but we planning on honeymooning in October and they all stop running before that.

How about splashing out on a really nice hotel in Paris, the city of love? Even if you have been there before there is lots of romance in Paris such as the restaurant at the Eiffel Tower, walking along by the Seine, Notre Dame, boat trips, the food...

Another thing: the Orient Express (v. expensive though).

    Lake Garda for a week.

What is the name of the really beautiful area in Austria - snowing or summer.

Scandinavia, go see the Northern Lights & some fjords. They are cruises, albeit expensive.

A friend of mine did an Alaskan cruise and loved it. Can be very uomarket depending on the cabin you chose. She said initially it was the part she was least looking forward to, but actually enjoyed it more than the beach week they had afterwards.

We're off for a 3 week honeymoon in France, 2 of which in the Pyrenees. Mountain weather is changeable - thus interesting. Generally speaking, prices (gite rental/eating out/etc) are as cheap as can be. Stunning nature, scenery with a chance to relax and chill after the big day. If quiet does it for you then you can find it here.

Ryanair to Carcassonne/ Aer Lingus to Toulouse and you're an hour's drive away. Forget August though - as all of France seems to head south at that time.

I have been on holiday to Norway a number of times and would have absolutely loved to go on a cruise for my honeymoon.

Norway in October is a bit like here temp wise albeit a little drier (been there 3 times in oct)

Bergen is gorgeous and if you want something romantic then the train journey from Oslo to Bergen is rated one of the most scenic in the world.

Enjoy wherever you decide to go x x

    Hi there,

As part of our honeymoon last year we spent some time on the Amalfi coast in Italy. It's a wonderfully romantic place with lots to do. Sorrento is really beautiful, Capri amazing to visit and of course you have Vesuvius, Pompeii and Herculaeum on your doorstop if you want to get steeped in history. You can rent a boat and travel up and down the coast stopping in various villages, etc.

I've been all over the world and this was up there with the best of places.

    Good luck!

Have you thought about Iceland? Not somewhere you'd go to normally and not too sunny - though it might be better/worse at certain times of the year. Somehow I imagine the Northern Lights to be very romantic...

Thanks one and all for suggestions. Already been to a few of the places suggested and some of the other ones look good.

My brother and wife went to Sorrento in Italy and were absolutely blown away. They put alot of work into the wedding and didn't fancy sitting on a plane for 12 hours to the likes of the Caribbean after the big day. They flew to Naples (don't stay there it's very rough) and organised transfers to Sorrento through a travel agent. They are going back this August for their 1st anniversary. Thats the beauty about it only being a two hour flight, they have the option of celebrating their anniversary there every year.

I have already been to Paris many many times, but this is where our honeymoon will start for 3 nights next July. We will splash on the Ritz and do all the French kinky things like going to The Moulin Rouge, Lido, etc. Throw in there some 2 or 3 michelin stars restaurants and Love is greatly celebrated!
After that we will head towards Brittany (that's where I'm from originaly and so with my new hubby we will discover together). Well the plan is open really, and if the weather is not nice, we will head South on the West coast to Bordeaux or maybe even Biaritz.
    Oh the joys!
Amalfi is great too by the way!
