Hey, not sure if this is in right forum but here goes. My Mam died nearly 2 months ago and im not sure if im coping very well with it, we were very close. I cant stop thinking about her and i get upset and panicky quite a bit. Also have had the same dream every night for the last 2 weeks nearly where she turns up out of the blue and turns out she was only lost, not dead. Not sure if i need any form of counselling. Wondered if anyone knew a good one and how much we talking here for one?? Cheers

It depends on the service you go to tbh. If you mother was involved with any of the hospices the offer a free service, but they prefer people to wait about four months after the bereavement for people to have had a bit of time to process things.

Bereavement counselling will help you to some degree, I went into back therapy after my own father's death last year. With saying that as a therapist I have plenty of places where I could talk about the issues that his death provoked, however, I needed a place away from that where I could process things.

If one of the hospices weren't involved there should be a low cost counselling service near you. The fees in such places are usually minimal and are based on a sliding scale in relation to you means. Where are you based? We might be able to locate such a service then

I hope you both have found someone to talk to about this. If you have not, there is a very good service called Bereavement counselling of Ireland.

    Here is their website: http://www.dynamicintent.com/bcs/index.cfm

They're based in Baldoyle and they provide a free service to people who want someone to talk to.

Thanks, but does that mean that they arnt actually qualified Counsellors, like people with a degree in Psychology or something? if not then I don't think I'd be interested in going :S

    Brooke :)

    Hi Brooke,

I think they are qualified Counsellors alright. But they may not/probably don't have a degree in psychology. If you look at the stickied threads at the top of the forum, you'll find information about the different professions, their training and qualifications.
