PSOne games on PSN

    Hi,

    I recently downloaded crash bandicoot from the PSN, installed it and everything. But when I want to play it, it says the game can't be played on the current resolution. I checked all the settings and allowed all resolutions but it still doesn't work. My PS3 is japanese but I downloaded the game from the european PSN. Would that be the reason? can't seem to find a good explanation.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers :D:D

    Hmm.. this is a strange one. That psone game would have been originally in PAL and the Japanese PS3 is meant to be NTSC. But in that sense my japanese and american psone downloads wouldn't work on my ps3.

    Check have you got the PS upscaler on in settings > game settings.

    I had this problem as well until I got a HD television. I have an american PS3 and when I downloaded Kula World from the PS store it wouldn't play and I got the same issue. After I got a HD TV and a HDMI cable it worked. There's no other way around it unfortunately.

    OP, if you like psone downloads then i recommend getting a 1000 yen Japanese PSN card off ebay and buying Metal Slug X.

    Bought it tonight and love it! I suck at it though.

    Can't recommend Metal Slug X since everyone and their dog has played it and the PS1 conversion is rather poor. There's far better games on the jap PSN to get like Einhander, Rapid Reload (like metal slug), G-Darius, R-type delta, devil dice and Raystorm.

    I recommended Metal Slug X as most people might not be willing to invest in Japanese games they're not familiar with. But you are quite right on Einhander, G-Darius and R-type delta (this is on US). Haven't played Devil Dice or Raystorm.

    BTW OP, don't look for Rapid Reload on Japanese PSN. Its called Gunners Heaven there instead.

    Hey Retr0gamer and gummy panda,

    I do own an HD tv and my ps3 is also connected by HDMI, and I've also allowed the ps upscaler, nothing works unfortunately. :(
    as for the japanese store I haven't accessed it yet but I am going to soon. Really wanna know why I can't play this game though. Downloaded it again just to make sure and still the same problem.:confused:

    Are you definitely running it in a HD resolution? I only had this problem at SD resolutions but in 720p and 1080p it worked fine. If you are upscaling from an SD resolution to a HD one then you will have problems but at HD resolutions you should be fine. Make sure you are definitly outputting at 720p or 1080p. The problem is to do with the fact the games run in a PAL resolution that the jap and US consoles don't output in but strangely the EU ones output in PAL and NTSC. However PAL does work through the NTSC consoles in HD resolutions.

    I'll double check that it still works for you today, there might be problems with a new firmware update.
