I'm confused by the eircom site with their 'albums' and add ons.

Is their an Eircom package for BB only?

I dont want to make phone calls etc, i can use my mobile for that.

I have the same question, moving from Limerick to Bray and need to give up my NTL as it won't work in Bray :(

I see the broadband only package from Eircom is 40 euro and the bundle 60 euro....I don't really need to make phone calls but if I have to pay line rental on top of the 40 euro then I may as well take the bundle....am I getting this right?

I see a few other broadband providers in Bray, but apparently the Eircom 7MB is the fastest connection available (sigh to my 20 MB NTL :( ) out there.

Any advice is more than welcome, I don't mind paying more but I really need the fastest possible connection. Thank you ;)

How about BT Broadband & Talk - Option 3:

    http://www.btireland.ie/AtHome_bb_talk.shtml

for €56.23? I use BT, and whilst they have their problems, they're one of the few ISPs that are actively pursuing LLU...

Also - the 6 month contract influenced my decision - in case UPC became available!

You can get the same package with unlimited calls from Smart for €56.51 http://www.smarttelecom.ie/residential_offnet/residential_offnet_compare.aspx

Exchange doesn't need to be smart enabled for those packages, they're just reselling Eircoms BB.

what you could do then is get a neighbours / local businesses phone number, and type it into the forms on either BT or Smart's website to check if the exchange is local loop unbundled

    BT: http://www.btireland.ie/24mb/24_checker.html

    Smart: http://www.smarttelecom.ie/line_checker.aspx

Have you checked if Digiweb have fixed wireless coverage available to you? Excellent service (both technical & support) but be wary that they do enforce download limits rigidly ;-) http://www.digiweb.ie/home/metro/

Very true - to clarify - I'm just suggesting ISPs that have LLU, but as Ciaran500 is pointing out, you can avail of lower, eircom bitstream resold speeds for the same price if you exchange isn't unbundled!

Is this always the case? Smart told me they can only give me the 3mb package while eircom said they can give me the 7mb. Should smart be able to give me the 7mb too? Would really prefer to go with smart.

    i'm in cork county

My local exchange is eirocm only.. i have checked with UTV, BT, Smart, Perlico and none are enabled at my exchange.

I am not covered by any wireless BB.

i'll just have to pay line rental :(

Don't forget theres a big difference with someone being willing to sell you a package and you actually attaining speeds as described, maybe Smart were telling you what your line was capable of whereas Eircom were trying to sell the more expensive package, knowing well you'd never get full value from it....all just maybes!

No such thing as an Eircom only exchange, where You can get Eircom You have the choice of all the others You mentioned. Maybe Eircom are the only ones so far who know its enabled. They've a habit of hiding facts about newly enabled exchanges from their resellers to allow their sales team get a headstart, exchanges have become enabled overnight, the equipment magically appeared :D
