Looking for information on St. Joseph's Primary School, Mardyke. I am not from the area and I was thinking of sending my son to this school. How many children are in the classes? What facilities does this school have? Any other information would be appreciated.

    Thank you,

From what I have seen and heard, there is a playing field which can be used when it's dry. The building is quite old and many of the classes are quite large. I considered sending my son there but decided on another school. A friend of mine moved her son to another school from there but I'm sure others are happy with it. I heard another friend with younger children saying that many schools in the area are heavily booked for next year for some reason. What year are you thinking of sending your son? Good luck with your decision.

Two of my neighbours went there. One got on grand, the other didn't. A certain amount depends on the child really I suppose. It is a school I thought about for my son also but didn't send him there.

Thanks for your reply. I was thinking of sending my son in Sept 2011. He will be 5 then.

It's so difficult trying to decide when you do not know anything about the schools.

    Thanks again.

There is a WSE (whole school evaluation report )on the Dept of Ed. site.

TBH most of the WSE reports are pretty standard, for those schools that have gone through that process. The method of assessing schools has always been the 'Tuaraisc Scoile' (School Report)which all schools are supposed to have had every 4 or 5 years and was carried out by Dept of Education & Science inspectors. It's very similar to a WSE but a different name.
In reality, it was over 10 years since some schools were assessed so it is only the schools where an assessment wasn't carried out for very a long time that have already had a WSE type of assessment. The WSE reports are the only one that have been published so far. Most other schools should have a copy of their most recent 'Tuaraisc Scoile' on file in their schools so if you ask for a copy, they would be happy to provide you with one. If you don't find a WSE for a school then that just means that they have a Tuaraisc Scoile instead. Hope this helps.

There are other schools nearby. Best to go and visit and see what you think. I know Greenmount near Deerpark has a great rep.

See what you think. Good luck!

I contributed to this question last year so I got an email alert that there was further activity. Have you made up your mind on what you want to do?
