Nursing in TCD...please help?!

Hi all. I finished my leaving cert in 2008, and because I had no idea what I wanted to do I ended up taking a year out straight after it instead of going to college. After much research I have recently come to the conclusion that I would like to do General Nursing in Trinity this coming September 2009.
Unfortunatly my points are quite dismal, coming in at a mere 340...while the general nursing course in TCD requires 355.
I just wanted to ask if anyone out there has ever recieved a place on the General nursing course in the second round of offers, as I have been told the points for nursing often drop at this stage? Do you know if that is true? and whether I might have a chance?

All help is greatly appreciated...Thanks a million.

It all depends on supply and demand for the course as to what the points will be this year, you might have enough, you might not. Unless they have greatly enlarged the intake this year, nobody knows.

I presume you have applied elsewhere.

Not sure re the points, but there are 50 nurse trainng places axed in cork, not sure about dublin. Call tcd school of nursing for an update.

What about RCSI and UCD? Surely they have nursing courses? And if you graduate from nursing you'll be a nurse, no matter where you graduated from, so will still get same employment chance as everybody else.

Having said that, if its tcd itself you are after, i guess you could apply to tcd plus a whole load of others, whilst putting tcd as first choice?

    Apply everywhere.

It is unlikely points will go down, I'm afraid. Many people will be going back to education after losing their jobs this year, and even more school-leavers will go to college in the absense of available jobs, driving up demand, and thus points.

Nursing won't get off easy. Many will see it as a good job with reasonable job security, and many will have "always wanted to be a nurse" also. I would be surprised if points are below 380 in TCD this year, being quite honest.

(My sister is applying also, this is why I know this)
