Buy a set of Tacx rollers and then go and build a set of Free motion rollers !
( they cost £800 ) you'll see what I mean here !!! it's the nearest thing to actual bike riding indoors !!!

Cycling in the rain is much more fun than rollers. And infinitely more fun than a turbo trainer.

rollers are good when the weather is crap BUT be prepared for intense boredom though.Great for balance as well

Not everyone takes to rollers like a duck to water.:D

Correct me if I'm wrong but is there not rollers you can get that the wheels r locked in! The you tube video looks crazy knowing me I'd go out the bedroom window

SWEET DIVINE JESUS that is the most annoying tube clip I have ever seen. Why would you firstly record your self doing that and for the love of god why would you post it on youtube?

Yes indeed but these are more commonly known as turbo/mag trainers.Example. They clamp onto the rear wheels QR skewer so the bike held in place. Much easier to use than rollers,in fact...clamp bike...mount bike...start pedalling. If you are only starting out cycling(as you mentioned) or getting back into it after a long time off bikes I'd opt for a trainer over rollers.

May I tempt you with this offering??

Loads of them for some strange reason.:D

Quite cool, shame about the price. I love how $795 (£525) becomes £875 when they cross the atlantic.

Riding in the rain is fun, unless it's dark.

    Funny quote:

"They [e-motion rollers] are better than regular rollers for sure, and way better than fixed trainer, but that's kind of like saying a visit to the proctologist is much better than being ass raped in prison...It's better to avoid either if possible. Riding outside is always better unless it is raining near or below freezing."

Edit: another mostly tedious (but initially funny) video:

I'm guessing this man is single.

Where can I buy some cheapo rollers? Or cheapo second-hand rollers if someone has a set they don't use? I just got it into my head that I want some :P

The best way to start off with rollers is between a door way, that way you can always put a hand or elbow out to steady you until you get the hang of it. Then you can do this only without the hair!

Saw a great vid once of somebody out of the saddle sprinting on rollars..can't seem to find it on youtube now

Out of the saddle and no hands (not at the same time!).

    Sprinting.

If you look into the E-motion/free motion rollers, this is meant to be one of their big selling points, because the whole thing is free to move a bit you can sprint out of the saddle, etc. There are videos of people trying to jump out of them to the front and being unable to.

The emotion rollers look good, they are $795 from the states or £875 in the UK. WTF!

Google a bit and find out how to cheaply convert normal rollers into the same thing.

mag rollers seem to differ in price a fair bit?
are there any available for a decent price for beginners.
is noise a major problem with them or are they silent enough?
