The owner of a local take away gets a call on his mobile from a person claiming to be working for the warrenty dept of SABB ireland. They told him there was a recall on his type of car . They went on to say that they were in the area and could remap his car computer today . The owner went on to tell them that it did not suit him as he was working . They said no problem they would have a tow truck pick it up . With in an hour a local tow truck came, The owner asked the driver was he taking the car to the local dealer in Blayney . The driver said he had got a call from SAAB ireland to collect the car and take it to the Park hotel car park. At this stage the owner knew there was something amiss . He redialed the number that had rang him to find out what the story was . When the person claiming to be from SAAB ireland seen the game was up he hung up the phone and since then the phone is switch off .
The owner phoned SAAB ireland , there is no recall on the car and no one from SAAB ireland would phone a customer without contacting the local garage first.

Yeah, stick to the 14 year old, slightly musty Silvermints until further notice.

Do people still fall for these types of things? A call out of the blue? An offer to tow your car away? I smell fish.

Who on earth would rob a SAAB?

A sign that the recession is hitting criminals harder than we thought.

Well if it was a fairly new one they are worth a decent bit of cash which in most cases is the main motivation behind crime.

how did they know he owned a saab, to have his number and knew he owned a Saab is a little unsettling!

I get those calls all the time here in the US. Automated but they are annoying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,760 ✭✭✭Theta

Well i suppose they could have looked out for him driving to and from work or seem it parked outside the chipper. Yeah i hear there is a big scam with cold calling about car warranties in the states at the moment.

Given that an IQ of less than 70 is classified as retarded, someone with a single digit IQ would not have been able to get up to fall, if you catch my drift.
