Famiglietti, Abdirahman, and Makau Are Top Healthy Kidney 10K Contenders
American Olympians Anthony Famiglietti (who is also the USA 15K champion and Abdi Abdirahman and defending champ Patrick Makau of Kenya will line up on Saturday morning in New York's Central Park in this race sponsored by the United Arab Emirates, whose political leader once benefited from medical treatment in the U.S. The field also features Abderrahime Bouramdane of Morocco, Tadese Tola of Ethiopia, Andrew Carlson and Edwardo Torres of the U.S., Martin Fagan of Ireland, and Adrian Blincoe of New Zealand. Famiglietti, who was at a New York Road Runners Foundation Mighty Miler event in East Harlem on Thursday, has been racing at distances far longer than his 3000-meter steeplechase specialty but insists "I am not thinking of doing a marathon soon. I'm still improving on the track and at the shorter road distances, and training for the marathon would take a completely different focus. Maybe someday
Hey folks - anyone know if Fagan is running this tomorrow..?

Good stuff - was surprised to see him racing so soon after that 10k interview where he seemed to be looking for a break. Hope he has a good one.

yes Martin is running in this race,

when athletics is your job, $$$$ helps tiredness go away;),and since his 10k at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational meet, greg has had him on easy weeks,

also he is building up a high profile as one of reeboks top distance athletes so when your boss (reebok in Martins case) wants you to run in high profile RR's you are contracted to do so,

it should be a great race, with a good field put together by the NYRR,

Would reebok stick something in the contract about been fit for the Euro XC and not running him into the ground... it might be nice to get a gold medal for them...him :)

LM - whats the inside story on Martin. Is he racing too much? What is the focus this year? Is it $$$$$ and is he leaving the Champs (Berlin and Euro Cross) to the side or is he still focused on those. I'd like to see him hit Worlds and then Euros in December in top shape but I'm not sure that is his focus. Understandable if not as it is his living but I'd love to see Fagan the Championship Performer instead of Fagan the Top Road Runner.

    hey tingle

the training and racing plan: focus over the summer is on getting faster over 10k as greg and martin feel that this will benefit him in the later stages in the a championship style race, also the training will be more relaxed less mileage for awhile as we know the Martins body is known to break down, this is a semi break also to prevent stailness as Marathon prep is mentally tough too,

he hopes by doing alot of high profile RR's will build up his profile and guarantee a nice apearance fee $$$$ for a big autumn marathon where he will have a crack at John treacys record, this will be in and around sept,

then its the head down for the euro x, where he wants medals both individually and in the team,

Good to know. A full team including Fagan and Cragg and gold medals are on the cards.

Mazungo any idea why Martin is with Reebok instead of Adidas like the rest of the McMillan fella's? Is he officially part of Mcmillans elite group?

Alistair is also running in Carson tomorrow:

    http://www.iaaf.org/WAF09/news/kind=100/newsid=50573.html
The men's 5000m start list includes Alistair Cragg (IRE), Josphat Boit (KEN), Jorge Torres, Scott Baughs and Bolota Asmerom, while in the women's 1500m

I kind of support Boit as being a bit Irish too having met him in a few races over here last year.

he is coached by greg but is not for say apart of mcmillan elite, due to the differences in sponsorship,

adidas support the mcmillan elete project, but I believe only one of the the official group get cash sponsorship from adidas the way Martin gets cash from reebok, and Andrew Carlson get a deal from Brooks but is part of the training group, the rest get free gear, subsidized living, travel etc,

also reebok have a conection to Providance College R.I they supply the track teams gear,
Martin went there, so they would of contacted him when he graduated

Reebok are based in the R.I, Boston area too,

He finished 8th in 28.45. New course record by Tadesse Tola with 27.48.

(Added as an edit: Andrew ledwith improved his 10k best to 28.45 yesterday winning the IC4A with a new meet record. Linky)

Thanks for the update - my first reaction was disappointment but from looking at the results that was actually a fairly strong performance as there were some pretty big names behind him and no non-african ahead.. It must be a tough course.
