So wait you deem this to be an attack on christianity, yet in the atheism forum we allow you christians to ask or say whatever you want and we debate you on it

I find the title and content of a recent thread started by a christian in the athiest section offensive but i still want to debate him on it, and the lively debate has still being ongoing with some good input from christians such as jakkass.

Why will you not allow your members the same rights? I don't think i attacked christianity so much as for my thread to be locked

As a regular christian poster here, I can tell you my reaction to your thread. 'Here we go, another moron' and stayed out of it. (I quote this thought not to be insulting, but to reveal ''honestly' how your thread came across to me as a regular christian poster).

This board brings alot of trolls, or bitter anti-religious types. Know it alls etc. Personally I was glad that PDN locked it. I don't think your approach should be tolerated. I also think PDN was very fair not banning or infracting you, but rather giving you a lesson on the decorum expected here. Many other fora would kick you out without a second thought. If you genuinely seek answers, start by not attacking those who you seek answers from.

    You made two classic mistakes.

First of all you asked a very general question about why religious people believe. That in itself is a massive topic and better suited to A&A where threads about belief in general are common.

Secondly you put forward a number of false assertions about what Christians are supposed to believe God is and does (vain, vengeful, punishes non-belief etc etc).

This some what harmed your case for a non-locking as it doesn't suggest you are genuinely interested in learning why Christians worship their god, rather that you simply want to attack that worship based on your own ideas about how bad God is.

It is like asking someone Why do you vote for Bertie Ahern, he is such a moron?.

Such as statement does not convey a genuine desire to understand the mind of a FF voter or the appeal of Bertie Ahern. It doesn't even convey a genuine desire to understand the mind of a FF voter for the purposes of critiquing such beliefs for any flaws they may have. It is not really a question, more a statement of the questioners own beliefs wrapped in an attack of people who don't share them.

It is simply an veiled attack attempting to set up another attack based on an assumption of what the other person believes, rather than what they actually do believe. Since the questioner has already asserted that Ahern is a moron any answer given by the FF supporter will be seen as an admission of supporting a moron.

Likewise with your question in the Christianity forum.

Any Christian posters who wished to answer your question would have to first explain to you why your question itself was flawed (a bit like a FF person having to first explain why Bertie isn't a moron) and then they would have to answer you despite strong suspicion that you don't really care what the answer is.

If you genuinely have an interest in learn about Christian belief then ask your question without assumptions.

If you genuinely have an interest in debating a topic of Christian belief first find out that this is actually what Christians believe.

May i ask then how you would have reworded my questions then for further reference so that we can have a debate. Apologies if i worded it in an offensive way i was just trying to get my point across,

If you have a problem with a moderator then the correct procedure is to PM them or to take it to the Help Desk.

Starting a thread like this is backseat modding, which is a no-no across the site of boards.ie.

Once again thread has to be locked.
