Looking for Horror/Suspense/Supernatural/Thrillers. Basically, anything terrifying.

I can't find any movies that scare me anymore. Just wondering if there's anything recent that I haven't yet seen.

I don't want sci-fi, anime, horrorcom, musicals, zombie (unless it's ridiculously frightening), crime or slasher (again, unless it's ridiculously frightening).

    I've seen;
    The Descent (good)
Tale Of Two Sisters (loved it)
Gin Gwai (original The Eye) (good)
    Epitaph (beautiful film, loved it)
    28 Days Later (good)
    28 Weeks Later (mediocre)
    30 Days of Night (crap)
    The Strangers (crap)
    Mirrors (crap)
    3 Extremes (good)
Blair Witch Project (mediocre, interesting style)
    The Others (mediocre, interesting concept)
    Sixth Sense (mediocre)
    Pan's Labrynth (good)
    Devil's Backbone (good)
    The Orphanage (mediocre)
Cronos (good but couldn't get into it)
    1408 (crap)
    The Exorcist (dated)
The Mist (I liked it, but only because I like Stephen King)
    all the Scream series (crap)
    Halloween (not into it)
    Audition (good)
M (don't remember, saw it years ago)
Marebito (don't remember, saw it years ago)
    The Shining (good)
Ginger Snaps (love it but not because it's good, just nostalgia)
    Carrie (good)
    Psycho (dated)
    Poltergeist (dated)
The Omen (both- original was alright, remake sucked)
The Wicker Man (original was good, remake was the worst thing ever created)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (couldn't get into it)
House of 1000 Corpses (hated it)
    Devil's Rejects (hated it)
    Freaks (loved it)
Splinter (oddly decent for a B)
    Pulse (both versions; both crap)
    White Noise (crap)
The Ring (remake and original, both mediocre)
Grudge (all remakes plus originals, not a fan)
One Missed Call (all remakes plus originals, first original was okay, rest crap)
    American Werewolf in London (appealing)
    Misery (I likes Stephen King)
Oldboy (not that I would consider it horror necessarily, but ultimately a brilliant film)
Ichi the Killer (same as above)
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance / Lady Vengeance (see above)
Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (decent, but dated)
    House of Wax (terrible)
Willard (bad but I honestly enjoyed it)
The Innocents (fantastic, didn't date at all imo)
From Hell (mediocre, I think I just like Johnny Depp)
    Secret Window (awful, despite Johnny)
Funny Games (both versions, not that it matters, loved it)
IT (don't remember much, saw it when I was little, but I don't remember it being that good)
Pet Sematary (both. they're crap. but the original I enjoy, again, King)
    Ghost Ship (crap)
    The Village (mediocre)
Hound of the Baskervilles (love it, but only because the dog is the spit of my own)
Let The Right One In (good)
Shutter (don't remember a lot of it, probably mediocre)
    Inside (jesus christ)
    Midnight Meat Train (enjoyable)
    [Rec.] (dear lord, loved it)

I've seen loads upon loads more but I honestly can't remember them all.

As you can see, it's getting harder and harder to find good scary films, as I've seen so many of what would be considered the top ones already.

I tend to lean quite heavily towards the whole supernatural genre. Ghosts and the like. But once in awhile a monster/mutant flick will make it through if it's good (eg. The Descent).

Thinking about watching Drag Me to Hell, Last House on the Left (both), and Salem's Lot (I don't know how I haven't seen this), but I have incredibly low expectations.

Any suggestions in that respect would be much appreciated!

    Have you seen Session 9?

Not amazing, but a very solid little horror film.

As for what you're considering watching, avoid Thirteen Ghosts.

Not yet, no, can't find it streaming (I know, I know.. no hard drive space and no money, can't help it!) but I REALLY want to see it, it looks promising.

    Have you seen [Rec]?

Oh also, if you liked films like Oldboy and such, I would heartily recommend:

Nah, same problem as Session 9, sort of-- can't find a subtitled version. Meant to be good though, isn't it?

The Chaser looks interesting, actually, I'll have to add it to my list of films to watch.

Just starting up Midnight Meat Train now.

[Rec] is extremely good, one of the most frightening films I've seen in ages, I loved it.

Midnight Meat Train is one I enjoyed a lot, but it's a very love it/hate it kinda film. I suppose it depends on whether you like Clive Barker or not, because it's a very good adaptation.

Yeah, it's meant to be quite good, just the subtitle thing is a kicker since I can't actually obtain any films outside of streaming.

    Midnight Meat Train's buffering now.

I'm not fussy about specifics as long as it's pleasing to watch, technically good and has some semblance of plot and isn't just idiots running around for the craic killing each other willy-nilly in stupid ways for lulz.

Basically, as long as it's not Jason X, I'm sure I'll like it. :p I don't mind a bit of gore if it's done right.

    Jesus christ.

I just watched Midnight Meat Train immediately followed by [Rec.]

Midnight Meat Train was a fun, enjoyable film, though I wasn't really a fan of how it was ended. Seemed kind of sloppy. Good way to pass some time though, and enough gore to keep it going.

[Rec.] on the other hand.. What a fantastically well-made zombie film. I usually can't stand zombie flicks, but this one was pulled together so damn well, everything from the use of the handheld to the way things would affect the sound. The jumpy bits were handled realistically (well, as realistic as you can get for a zombie flick). Only thing I didn't like was my ears hurt for all the screaming.

    The
    little girl
made me jump. I haven't jumped at a flick in years. It was a little slow to start but hell, once it grabbed on it didn't let go for a second. Couple times I had to resist the urge to cover my eyes because I knew what was coming.
Felt so bad for Pablo :( Didn't mind the girl so much. She was annoying.

Definitely pleased with that one, can't think of anything else in recent years that would come close to topping it for sheer "holy shít" value. :D

    Agreed... I absolutely adored [REC].

Haven't been that impressed by a horror since '28 Days Later' to be honest.

The problem is,scary movies are such a rarity in this day and age.

Plus going by your list of what you liked and disliked alot of what you enjoyed (Midnight Meat Train and Rec for example) I disliked, and what you hated (Devils Rejects) or thought mediocre (Ringu) I loved so I think our preferences are not in sync at all.Cant add anything scary to the list but I will suggest some titles that are a little different from your list, all in the horror realm.

Dans Ma Peau (French body horror, uncomfortable viewing at times)

Henry : Portrait of a Serial Killer (my favourite serial killer movie ever.Michael Rooker oozes malice throughout)

Haute Tension (ignore the plotholes and enjoy the blood soaked ride)

    Aftermath (Nacho Cerda's short,pretty shocking)

August Underground Trilogy - August Underground,Mordum and Penance (Uncomfortable viewing throughout.Mordum is the only movie Ive ever seen that kept me wide eyed with what I was witnessing for the lenght of the film)

The Ebola Syndrome (mental Asian sicky)

Fetus (Experimental Independant extreme horror at its very best)

    The Gateway Meat (as above)

    Cannibal (Marian Doras German shocker)

Have more I cant think of,I will have a look through my DVDs and see what else I can come up with.

I agree with Prince of Darkness, love it, always freaks me out, especially the ending.

I think Exorcist III is very creepy. Don't think of it as just another crappy sequel. It stands in it's own right as a great horror movie.

I think there's quite a lot of good horror films out there if you care to look, maybe not amazing, but plenty of them are very enjoyable or interesting.

You should see some older films, like Don't Look Now and The Changeling.

On this point I would have to wholeheartedly agree with you Ned. Chilling film, and I think there's very few actors (in any genre of movie) that have gotten near the levels of intensity Rooker had.
