    Hey,
Was just wondering if anyone could tell me if the Gardaí ask any questions when you give them the motor tax renewal form to stamp to say the car was off the road for a given period?

They usually don't ask questions, all you are asking them to do is witness your signature to a declaration, so if you make a false declaration, then the Gardai will have lots of questions to ask.

The reason they witness your signature is so you can be prosecuted later if it can be proved that the vehicle was in a public place during the period you stated it was not.

    Not your ornery onager

It depends on the guard. Most will just sign - no questions. Others will probe. FACT.

Defo, never thought of E Flow :o, my case was a restoration project that'd been sitting up for a while so wasn't worried just seemed to take longer than usual.

The Gardai do not ask questions, as others have said, they are only witnessing your declaration. The motor tax office on the other hand have a vested interest in maximising their revenue. If they find evidence that the declaration was false, they will prosecute and you will have no defence because your declaration was witnessed by a Garda.
