    Hi all,

A report on the Military section of Flight International says that an Ex RAF Victor K2, XM715, based at Bruntingthorpe made a unscheduled take off during a high speed taxi run down the runway. According to the report the Victor made 30 feet before the power was chopped and the jet sank back onto the runway. The UK's AAIB are investigating as these Aircraft are WFS ( Withdrawn From Service ) and not supposed to fly apparently they are only allowed to perform fast taxi Run's, it took place on May 3rd and apparently has been kept quiet since then.

There was an Ex RAF Victor Pilot at the controls and someone doing the throttles, It goes that an order was Mis Understood and Full Power applied resulting in take off!

Whats the purpose of taxi runs?

For the Public really, kind of a display and also to keep the engines/systems in check as they may try to get one Airborne again but "Legally" the next time.:pac:

Planned Fast Taxi Runs are actually more dangerous than getting airborne anyway because of the reduced stopping distance and inherent difficulty of stopping well after V1. Also the Runway at Brunty is 2 miles long but it's not that long when in a Victor.
