    Hi all,

A report on the Military section of Flight International says that an Ex RAF Victor K2, XM715, based at Bruntingthorpe made a unscheduled take off during a high speed taxi run down the runway. According to the report the Victor made 30 feet before the power was chopped and the jet sank back onto the runway. The UK's AAIB are investigating as these Aircraft are WFS ( Withdrawn From Service ) and not supposed to fly apparently they are only allowed to perform fast taxi Run's, it took place on May 3rd and apparently has been kept quiet since then.

There was an Ex RAF Victor Pilot at the controls and someone doing the throttles, It goes that an order was Mis Understood and Full Power applied resulting in take off!

Talking about the vulcan. I was talking to one of the main people in the restoration project two weeks ago. They have secured enough money to keep it flying this year and hope to find some for next year.

But that's not the main problem. The problem with the vulcan is the engines. Once installed they have a set lifespan. So even if it's left unused they will not be airworthy by (I can't fully remember) either December 2010 or 2012.

So if you want to see it flying. This year really seems to be the only year that's guaranteed.

What's the big deal? It sounds like a mistake and 30ft isn't exactely anything major! If the pilot had decided to keep going and did a circle around 3 or 4 counties then it'd be more seriousl wouldn't it?

This might be political/PR as much as anything, i.e., if you show the Victor can still fly then there's a better chance of it being restored to proper flying condition.

Would love to see it and the Vulcan fly in the flesh.

It's also to do with the Insurance/Permiums etc and as the CAA dont regulate the Fast Taxi's they dont need to be involved but when something thats legally grounded gets airborne for any altitude then its a whole different story, also the Aircraft began drifting to the left towards the crowd.
